Juventus defender Stephan Lichtsteiner has revealed the reasons why he has turned down the lure of the Premier League to stay in Turin.
Lichtsteiner was targeted by Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester United, but he has pledged his future to the Italian side.
“We want to win everything we can,” he said. “Obviously the Champions League is the big dream, and this prompted me to renew (my contract).
“I believe so much in this group. Was there was a team close to getting me? Yes, but I did not think of the economic aspect. I repeat, I want to win with Juve.”
Arsenal were seeking cover in central defence, but were now on the verge of signing Gabriel Paulista instead.
Chelsea were looking for a replacement for David Luiz, sold to Paris St Germain in the summer.
Manchester United have suffered with a raft of injuries this term, especially in defence.
Lichtsteiner has a raft of experience, signing for Juventus back in 2011 from Lazio. He has appeared in two World Cups for the Swiss national side, and has 70 caps.
In Turin he is known as the ‘Swiss Express’ due to his pace and athleticism.
