The forward was linked with several clubs during the transfer window

Robert Lewandowski joined Bayern Munich from Borussia Dortmund on a free transfer, signing a 5 year in contract back in 2014. He has been a mainstay in the team since joining them, scoring 155 goals in 197 matches.

The Poland International was again lethal for the German side last season, scoring 40 goals in all competitions and helping them to win their 6th consecutive Bundesliga title. He also finished as the Bundesliga’s leading scorer with 29 goals.

The 30 year old was heavily linked with an exit throughout the summer transfer window with clubs like Chelsea, Real Madrid, Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain were reportedly interested in signing him.

The forward made clear his willingness to leave the club as he was unhappy. However, the Bundesliga giants resisted to sell him as they made clear they will not sell him even if they were offered huge money.

Lewandowski has taken a dig at the club’s directors as he claimed that they failed to protect him when he has criticized and believes they should have been more active in protecting him. He has also revealed that he was unhappy with the criticisms and that’s why wanted to leave.

“In April and May everyone criticised me. And I felt no protection from the club, I felt alone,” he admitted as quoted by Sport Bild .

“I scored no goals in two or three important games and suddenly everyone was saying: ‘Open fire against Lewandowski!’ I did not see anyone who supported me at the time. Neither of the club bosses defended me. I did not feel good in Munich at that moment. Being at Bayern did not fit for me at that time.”

“I noticed that in Munich the fans support me. I realised that they still want me here. I will never strike, never mess with the club. I’m not wasting any thought on another club now.” he added.
