Thiago Silva credited Mauricio Pochettino from pulling out of his comfort zone.

The 39-year-old defender is currently the oldest outfield player in the Premier League this year.

The Brazilian defender has played every minute so far in the top flight this season under Pochettino who stood by the veteran amidst criticism from fans.

Defenders like Wesley Fofana and Benoit Badiashile entered the season with injuries which resulted in Silva becoming a regular starter.

Silva has definitely entered the twilight of his career and his contract with the Blues expires next summer.

He further explained how the manager had a major impact on his fitness this season.

“Pochettino has helped me a lot with my fitness,” he told The Guardian. “Not that I was complacent but I was in my comfort zone. It looks like everything is fine, and it feels fine, but he managed to get me out of that area.”

The defender has also praised the Argentine manager for his willingness to listen.

“On the pitch I’m already a bit of a manager, right?” he continued. “As I watch the game from the back, I see a lot of situations. And then I warn [the others] about certain situations. I talk to the staff, to Pochettino, so that we don’t make mistakes.”
