Spurs topple league-leaders 4-1 at White Hart Lane

Tottenham Hotspur picked up an impressive victory against Manchester City this lunch-times thanks to goals from Eric Dier, Toby Alderweireld, Harry Kane and Erik Lamela.

After Wednesday’s North London derby defeat to Arsenal, Tottenham would have wanted to bounce back immediately, and thanks to a brilliant second-half display, they were able to do so.

Before the game it was City making the headlines as Manuel Pellegrini was without Joe Hart, Vincent Kompany and David Silva, all out through injury.

Game Summary

Despite the key trio being out for City, they managed to take the lead thanks to summer-signing Kevin De Bruyne, who finished off a stunning counter-attack lead by Yaya Toure.

De Bruyne was put through by the Ivorian and smashed home past Hugo Lloris in the far corner.

However, right on the stroke of half-time, Spurs were level when Dier smashed the ball home from outside the box past Willy Caballero, who had just made a great save to deny Son.

The goal came in controversial fashion however as there was a blatant offside in the build-up which was missed by the linesman.

The second-half was all Spurs however and it was centre-back Alderweireld who gave the Lilywhites the lead after he headered home a corner after Caballero mistimed his punch.

It was soon 3-1 to Mauricio Pochettino‘s men when Kane scored his first club goal of the season. Christian Eriksen‘s free-kick rebounded off the bar and the Englishman turned home into the empty net.

The scoring was rounded off when Lamela kept his composure to get round the City ‘keeper before slotting home.

The emphatic win puts Spurs fifth in the league for the time being with 12-points, while City remain top on 15, with rivals still to play.
