Aston Villa midfielder Ashley Westwood has signed a new five-year contract extension.
The 25-year-old moved to Villa Park from League One side Crewe Alexandra in 2012 for just £2million and has fully established himself in the first team, as the box-to-box midfielder impressed manager Tim Sherwood last campaign.
After playing the full 90 minutes in Saturday’s opening fixture victory at Bournemouth, the Englishman has now committed his future to Villa until 2020.
Westwood is delighted that he has extended his stay at Villa Park, he said: “I am extremely pleased to sign a new contract and commit my future to Aston Villa.
“I was made to feel very welcome from the moment I first walked through the door and I’m very happy at the club.
“I believe I’m now entering what I hope will be the peak years of my career and I look forward to spending them here.” he added.
Tim Sherwood’s side welcome Manchester United on Friday night, with the winners of the match being guaranteed to stay at the top of the Premier League table until the other weekend fixtures get underway.
