Wolves Set To Miss Out On Shoya Nakajima

The Portuguese news outlet, A Bola claims that Wolves could miss out on Japanese winger, Shoya Nakajima this January.

The Portimonense attacker was predicted to move to the Molineux but transfer talks have not progressed as Nuno Espirito Santo would have liked. Portimonense’s club president, Rodiney Sampaio even claimed that a deal with the Wanderers had been ‘80 per cent’ completed.

However, the Portuguese club is demanding Wolves to pay Nakajima’s €40m release clause instead of the €20m that was agreed on before. While the 24-year-old winger is a quality talent, Santo might not be ready to break Wolves’ transfer record on him.

Nakajima has hit a rich vein of form in the Primera Liga, scoring 5 goals and laying off 6 assists in 13 games this season. He spent the previous season on loan from FC Tokyo and was purchased permanently last summer.

He also is a prominent figure in the Japanese national team with 8 caps already under his for the senior side. The winger has represented his nation at U17, U20 and U23 levels as well.

Wolves currently might be covered in the wing department with players like Diogo Jota, Helder Costa, Ivan Cavaleiro and Adama Traore in the side.

The club has already spent considerable resources on the aforementioned names and any further additions could cause rotational havoc. Nakajima is still largely unproven in the European stage, while only in his second season at Portugal.

He is on the wishlist of clubs like Leicester City, Benfica and Sevilla as well but none are ready to pay his ludicrous asking price.
