Rodriguez left for Bayern Munich on a two year loan deal

James Rodriguez joined Real Madrid in the summer of 2014 after a he performed brilliantly for his national team Colombia in the World Cup. He started off well for the club and went on to win two Champions League and one La Liga title.

But since Zinedine Zidane took over the charge of Real Madrid in 2016, Rodriguez struggled for game time and fell down the the pecking during the Frenchman’s second year in charge. This led to the 27 year old requesting a loan transfer for more playing time. He joined Bayern Munich on a two year loan deal last summer and the club have a option to make the deal permanent.

Real will face Bayern in the semi final of Champions League on Wednesday and Rodriguez could be included in the starting XI. Left out of their squad for the Champions League final last year, he now has the chance to knock his parent club out of this season’s competition.

But Zidane claims there is no bad relation between them and played down the idea that the Colombia International will be looking to prove a point. He also admitted that he did not want the midfielder to leave the club last summer.

“I didn’t want James to go, he decided to go. I never had any problem with James and it’s more about what is said in the press,” the Frenchman told the media.

“I think he will be motivated because he is a football player. He doesn’t have to prove anything to anyone.

“Anyone that thinks I am against James is wrong.

“He will want to go out and prove himself but because he likes football and that’s it.”
