Djibril Cisse doesn’t want long QPR stay

0

Djibril Cisse has revealed what he has planned for his career once his contract expires at Queens Park Rangers.

The French international has admitted that once his current contract ends in 2014, he would love to go back to France to fulfil ‘a personal goal’ and then end his career in the United States.

Cisse has said he wants to reach 100 league goals in the French league and that is why he wants to go back.

“I don’t feel tired. I’m giving myself three to four more years at the highest level,” Cisse told TV Mag.

“I am under contract with QPR until 2013/14. The I will return to France to fulfil a personal goal, which is selfish, and is to get over the line with 100 goals in Ligue 1. I am at 94 now.

“After this, I would not mind finishing my career in the United States.

“I’m really attracted to this country.”

Fulham have completed the signing of Greece international Giorgos Karagounis.

England vs Ukraine reaction

0

England’s goalscorer Frank Lampard: “I’m very pleased to see the penalty it hit the back of the net. Nobody understands why Jermain Defoe’s goal was disallowed, it wasn’t a foul at all and we are not happy.

“We wanted to win the game but considering the circumstances we showed character to win a point. It’s a long group and it’s a good result considering we were 1-0 down with 10 minutes to go.”

England manager Roy Hodgson: “I am disappointed. There won’t be too many people watching the game that would disagree with me when I say some of the yellow cards were extremely harsh. Steven Gerrard was very unfortunate to get sent off, I would be amazed if he made two tackles during that game, let alone two bookable offences.

“Luckily we got our reward and who knows if Steven Gerrard had managed to stay on the pitch we might have got a winner.”

“Had we lost the game it would have been harsh on us as we deserved the draw.

“The first 15 minutes we weren’t at our best. The next 75 minutes we dominated the game totally. We created chances throughout the game, we struck the post three times. We thoroughly deserved a point.

“I am very happy with what happened out there. The fact is we played against a very good Ukraine team but I was very pleased with the way the players went about their task. I leave Wembley tonight a lot more confident that we have a squad that will take us to Rio in 2014.”

Late penalty saves England’s blushes after lackluster performance

0

After a convincing 5-0 win away at Moldova, England faced a much tougher task tonight at home against Ukraine. Over 80,000 people were at Wembley to watch Roy Hodgson’s men take on Ukraine in their second World Cup Qualifying match. In a game which saw one amazing goal, one glaring miss, one penalty and one red card, both teams had to settle for a point after the game ended 1-1. It will not be the result that Roy Hodgson or England were after and they will be bitterly disappointed with the manner of the result. A very poor performance for England’s standards saw them struggle to create chances and whenever they did create a chance, they saw it go to waste.

It wasn’t a great performance by the referee at Wembley and he first came under pressure when he wrongly disallowed an England goal after Jermain Defoe smashed home from outside the box to only find out that the ref had already given a free-kick the other way after it seemed that Jermain had waved an arm in the Ukranian defender’s face. The free-kick seemed very harsh and rightly so a lot of the England side were left fuming at the decision.

A glorious chance for England came in the 33rd minute. A cross came into the box which Jermain Defoe headed back across right in the path of Tom Cleverley who was standing un-marked about two yards away from goal, but saw his shot go straight into the keeper and bounce wide. A massive chance for the young Manchester United midfielder and unfortunately for him, his game didn’t improve.

After a very cagey first half hour with neither team being able to create much, it was no surprise when the first goal came from nothing. Ukraine midfielder, Yevgen Konoplianka, picked up the ball from inside the England half and ran towards Joe Hart’s goal before curling a beautiful shot right into the top corner past the reaching Joe Hart. It was a truly wonderful goal from the Ukraine international and that is how it stayed until half time.

However there were two more chances for England before the first half ended and they both came down to Tom Cleverley. The first chance saw Frank Lampard pull back a pass straight to the young midfielder who completely mis-hit his volley and saw the ball fly wide. Tom then got into a good position once again, but saw his blasted shot smash against the post.

The second half was a very edgy affair with no real glorious moments for either side, but then after the 80th minute it all got interesting. Second half substitute, Danny Welbeck, had a glorious chance to level the scores but his six yard shot fired against the post. A big opportunity which he should have buried, but unfortunately, like his club-mate, Tom Cleverley, he couldn’t find the back of the net.

Then came more referee controversy, when he refused to give England a penalty when it appeared that Danny Welbeck was tripped by a Ukrainian defender. A big appeal from England players were turned away by the referee and after looking at the replays, it seems like he made the right choice as it looked like Welbeck was looking for the penalty.

However a couple minutes later, England did get a penalty. Danny Welbeck unleashed a powerful volley towards goal which saw Ukraine defender, Yevhen Khacheridi, raise his arm and block the ball with his hand. A yellow card was show for the defender and the penalty was drilled home by Mr penalty himself, Frank Lampard. A huge sigh of relief for Roy Hodgson and for all England fans as they were rescued and a point was saved.

It ended on a sour note for England as captain, Steven Gerrard was sent off for a second bookable offence late on.

A point wasn’t what England were looking for, but after the performance, I think most people would take the point

Happy Santi

Arsenal summer signing Santi Cazorla has admitted that he is loving life at Arsenal and is very happy with his new role at the club.

Cazorla, who was signed in the summer by Arsenal from Malaga for a fee in the region of £16.5m has started off very well in the premiership and has impressed many people in his first three games for Arsenal. He has also managed to grab a goal and an assist as well, both of those coming away at Liverpool in Arsenal’s first victory of the season.

The Spanish international has admitted he is happy that Arsene Wenger has given him a free roaming role and he is ready to make up for his price-tag.

“They have paid an important amount of money for me and the role they’ve given me is the one I like,” Cazorla told El Pais.

“I love the style of the team. Wenger’s philosophy is to control the game and I like to be on the ball. Furthermore, the boss has put me in a position, second striker, with all the freedom I want to have.

“I’ve come to play on the wings with the freedom to move inside, but Wenger has immediately put me in this position. With (Mikel) Arteta, (Abou) Diaby, (Tomas) Rosicky and (Jack) Wilshere, who is recovering from injury, we’re going to have a lot of the ball.“He told me to be at ease and that he’d play me where I could most help the team. It surprised me in pre-season when he put me as the second striker.

Cazorla has also been quick to praise fellow Spaniard, Mikel Arteta.

“Arteta has advised me a lot, he told me football is much faster and less tactical than Spain. It’s more give and go,” added Cazorla.

“Mikel has helped me to learn to see the game and said that if we play rapidly with the ball we’re going to create a lot of danger and we’ll beat most teams.

Putting down the Llor!

0

Tottenham defender, Benoit Assou-Ekotto, has told new goalkeeper Hugo Lloris that he will have to wait his turn to get a chance in between the posts and has added that he believes current number one, Brad Friedel deserves to be the number one.

After arriving at Tottenham on deadline day, it has already been reported that French international, Hugo Lloris, is not happy with being second in line behind Friedel and he has made that clear with some of his comments whilst being away on international duty. He has said that he is not happy with what Villas-Boas has said about the current goalkeeper situation and is not happy with being second fiddle.

With tensions already rising in the Tottenham camp, Assou-Ekotto has made his imput by backing Brad Friedel to remain as the number one at White Hart Lane.

‘It won’t be easy for him because there is competition,’ he told French radio station RMC.

‘No 1 keeper in the French team or not, he will have to fight to get the position in the team.

‘We currently have a keeper that doesn’t make any mistakes, who is very well-known in Great Britain.

‘To start I believe Lloris will be No 2. If our keeper doesn’t make any mistakes there is no reason to change.’

Roy Hodgson says Crouch isn’t good enough for England

0

England manager Roy Hodgson has told Peter Crouch that if he wants to get a call up to his England squad, he will have to improve and match the quality he already has.

Questions were asked when the new England boss didn’t call up Crouch for the World Cup Qualifiers and even more were asked when he didn’t call him up even after Andy Carroll got ruled out through injury.

Despite having 22 goals in 42 England caps, Roy Hodgson still doesn’t have Crouch in mind for his plans.

‘I did try to sign him at Fulham and I selected him for the Euros as well,’ said Hodgson.

‘He was on a standby list but he made it clear that, unless he was in the squad, he didn’t want to be considered.

‘I’m not going to bring him in to fill up the bench.

He added:
‘The day Crouch gets into an England squad is when I think he should be in the original 23.’

Man United tell Nani to let his football do the talking

0

Manchester United have ordered want-away midfielder, Nani, to stop openly talking about his current contract situation.

The 26-year-old was close to securing a summer move away from Old Trafford to Russian side, Zenit St Petersburg. However the £25m move fell through when the club and the player could not agree personal terms. Now Manchester United want the midfield man to stop talking about his contract and start fighting for a place in the side.

The Portuguese man currently has two years left on his current deal, but the club are refusing to offer him an extension because of his exessive wage demands.

It is reported that Man United will try and offload the player in again in January.

Wesley Sneijder: “I have never, never thought about leaving Inter”

0

Wesley Sneijder is always a name brought up when there is speculation about who Manchester United might be signing, however today it seems like he has ended every bit of speculation by insisting he doesn’t want to leave Inter Milan.

Ever since Jose Mourinho has left the Italian side, they have slowly fallen down the pecking order in Seria A and even finished outside the top four last year. This down-fall has only sparked more rumours about Sneihder not being happy at the club and seeking a move away from Inter, but that doesn’t seem the case anymore.

He said: “I want to stay at Inter. I have never, never thought about leaving Inter.

“I have a deal with Inter until 2015 and I want, as a minimum, to remain until the end of the contract.

“I like the team, the city, the club, and I also like the coach.

New boys will help us win our title back, says Anderson

0

It is very rare you see a Manchester United team finish a season without a trophy to their name, but that is exactly what happened in the 2011/2012 season, but midfielder, Anderson, believes the two new signings, Robin Van Persie and Shinji Kagawa, can help the club win back the premiership title.

Last season was in fact the first time since 2005 Manchester United failed to win any silverware in one season and this was made harder to accept after losing the title to fierce rivals Manchester City in the last seconds of the premiership campaign.

Anderson has said that it is not acceptable for a club like Manchester United to go a season without winning anything, but he believes the summer signings will guide Manchester United back to the title.

‘We have to do better. Manchester United has to win every trophy and we’re disappointed if we don’t,’ he told the club’s official website.

‘Shinji Kagawa and Robin van Persie have a lot of quality and they make it easier for the rest of the team when they have so much talent.

‘It also means everybody works harder to try and keep their own place.’

Hugo Lloris wants talks with Villas-Boas…….Already!

0

It is very rare you get a new signing wanting showdown talks with their new manager within a week of signing for the club. However that is the case for new Tottenham goalkeeper, Hugo Lloris. The French international is currently with his French team on an international break, but he is set to demand talks with Villas-Boas when he returns to the North London club.

Hugo has only been at Tottenham since deadline day a couple of weeks ago and he is said to be upset about comments that Villas-Boas made in the press after the Norwich game. The Tottenham manager was full of praise for Brad Friedel after the American goalkeeper put in one of the best performances in a Tottenham shirt against Norwich which led to the manager saying he is the number one keeper for the season and it is his shirt to lose.

Hugo Lloris has been talking to his French manager, Didier Deschamps, about the current situation and saying that he is unhappy with the comments that Villas-Boas made.

Hugo Lloris has said: ‘When I join up with the national team, I concentrate uniquely and we’ll see about my personal situation when I go back,’ Lloris said. ‘Obviously it is not nice if the coach says he will pick someone else for the first team, but we can see what happens.

‘For now, I have to put the situation to one side as France have important matches and I cannot worry about what might happen at my club.’

It also seems that Brad Friedel is not prepared to give away the number one kit for the new signing without a fight.

The 41-year-old American said: ‘I feel like I played pretty well in my last game and hopefully I continue to get picked. Right now I believe the shirt is mine to lose.

‘I believe the manager came out and said that and if this is the case then it’s a great challenge for me.’

No go for Jo!

Arsenal manager, Arsene Wenger, has insisted that Johan Djourou still has a big part to play at Arsenal despite falling down in the pecking order behind captain, Thomas Vermaelen, Laurent Koscielny and Per Mertesacker.

The 25-year-old, Swiss international, is yet to play a minute of this seasons campaign despite the injury to Laurent Koscielny. However, Wenger has recently come out saying that Johan has a future at the North London club and says that he “loves him” as a footballer.

The Arsenal manager said: ‘I didn’t let Djourou leave as I love him as a player, and he loves the club,’

Craig Bellamy is going through ‘The worst time of his life’

0

Craig Bellamy is known in the football world as quite the hard man who is never afraid of going into tackles or getting a few bookings for his club, but recently he has revealed that his life has been torn apart ever since the shock death of his best friend, Gary Speed.

Speed was found dead in his house last November after committing suicide and Craig Bellamy has said that his death has effected everything in his own life, including his marriage. Craig has apparently moved out of his shared house with wife Claire and their three children.

He said: ‘Losing my best mate has affected everything. I can’t believe how hard it is.

‘He was the best mate I’ve ever had. It’s sad but unfortunately it got to my marriage. I’m here and she’s there.

I don’t know if that’s it for us. All I know is that my best mate has gone. I’m struggling. I can’t lie.’

Bellamy said of his family situation: ‘I can’t tell you how hard it is. It’s the worst time in my life ever.’

The Welshman currently plays football for Championship side Cardiff City and the club has come out and said that although Craig isn’t in the best of places at the moment, he is not considering retiring from the game.

0

Manchester United defender, Phil Jones, has suffered another injury setback and will now be facing up to another two months out after having surgery on his knee, the club has announced.

The statement says: “Phil Jones has had surgery on a knee meniscus tear sustained in training,” said a United spokesman.

“It will require six to eight weeks of rehabilitation.”

The young defender is yet to make an appearance for the Manchester club this season after a back injury kept him out of pre-season. His last competitive game was away at Sunderland on the last game of the season.

He is likely to miss about six premiership games and about three champions league matches.

Clint Dempsey’s emotional Craven Cottage exit

0

Despite openly saying he wanted to leave the London club, Clint Dempsey, has revealed that he was very close to tears after the bust-up he had with the club before his departure.

It was reported that the American international fell out with manager, Martin Jol, in pre-season, which then led to reports that he was refusing to play for the club.

Dempsey said: ‘I just remember calling my wife and my mom and almost wanting to break down in tears because it was a tough time,’ Dempsey told Sports Illustrated.

‘Going into that last day and night there were still a lot of question marks. It wasn’t clear cut this was going to happen. Some other things came up and you are going through that struggle, which was not fun for anybody. It was difficult for Fulham and for me, not knowing how it was going to end”.

The 29-year-old centre forward finally joined Tottenham for £6m late on deadline day.
