Who are the Top 10 Players To Never Be Capped by England? Have you ever wondered which players have never been capped by the English national team? well if you have then worry not because we have prepared a list of the Top 10 Players To Never Be Capped by England.

The English national team is one of the oldest football teams in the world Alongside with Scotland. England and Scotland played the first ever international fixture in 1872 which resulted into a 0-0 draw 143 years ago and England has since capped 1212 players since, averaging 8-9 players each year.

English football has been condemned over the years of failing to produce natural gifted players but all I can say is that its just the managers who fail to recognize the best English talent like the players we have listed in the list below. Here are the Top 10 Players To Never Be Capped by England.

Top Ten Players To Have Never Been Capped by England

Previously we published the Top 10 Soccer Players Who Never Played in the Premier League & Best Footballers Never To Play In A World Cup Tournament if you have not seen these yet make sure you do after this list. So, sit back and enjoy this list of the Top 10 Players To Never Be Capped by England.

Top 10 Players To Never Be Capped by England

10. Steve Bruce

Starting the list of the Top 10 Players To Never Be Capped by England is former Manchester United defender Steve Bruce. The English man was never called up to represent his country despite spending a wonderful nine seasons at Old Trafford with Manchester United where he made over 300 appearances as a defender and won three Premier League titles.

At the age of 34, Bruce was called up to the international squad but turned the opportunity as he though it was out of sympathy rather than earning it. Steve Bruce is now the current boss of Aston Villa.

9. Kevin Campbell

Kelvin Campbell takes up ninth place on the list. The Englishman also holds the record of being the highest scoring player in the Premier League to have never won a cap for his national team. The tall striker played for seven different teams in his 19-year football career but notably played for the Gunners, Everton and Nottingham Forest whilst not even making to the world stage, despite being a consistent striker scoring 148 in 499 games.

8. Tony Coton

Tony Coton also makes the list. First goalkeeper on the list, Coton is another player who never got the chance to represent his country on national level despite making over 500 appearances in his 19 year career, playing for Birmingham, Watford and Manchester City. He made it to the Watford Hall of Fame and won the player of the season twice at Manchester City but never got a call up to the national team.

He was once called up to play for the England B but was never called up to play for the big guns.

7. Dennis Mortimer

Well, if you are a team captain and you guide your team to both the league title and the European cup you as well deserve a call up to represent your country. Unfortunately, for Dennis Mortimer, he was never called up to represent his country not even a single time for England. The Liverpool-born midfielder played 600 games scoring 47 times in his career in the Football League, he notably played for Aston Villa where he captained the team for seven years and the club were the Champions of Europe and England.

Dennis played for both the England under 23’s and the B team but was never a full international.

6. Howard Kendall

It was unlucky that the deceased Howard Kendall was never a full England international during his playing days. The talented midfielder played for Everton where they formed a deadly trio with teammates Alan Ball and Colin Harvey. Alan Ball won 72 caps for England, including a world cup title, Harvey only managed a single cap while Kendall could not even get a single cap with England. He won the league and the FA Cup with Everton in 1970, he also played for Preston, Birmingham, Stoke and Blackburn. Despite captaining the English youth team to the ”Little World Cup” in 1964, Kendall was never called up to the English senior team.

5. Micky Hazard

Closing down on the top five is Micky Hazard. Over the years, their has been talks that England can’t produce natural gifted players but the thing is they can the problem is with the managers who can’t groom them to being the best in the world. Micky Hazard starred for Tottenham and Chelsea in the 1980’s and was know for his passing abilities and technique but was really never given a chance by England to represent his nation. He won the FA Cup and EUFA Cup with Spurs but was never given a chance to play for England making him the fifth player on the list never to feature for the English national team.

4. Billy Bonds

The holder of the record all-time appearances for West Ham United. Billy Bonds started his career at Charlton where he played as a right-back before moving to midfield where he excelled into an amazing midfielder before going back to defensive duties but as a center back before retiring from football.

Billy Bonds joined West Ham United in 1967 where he went on to become a club legend playing for the club for 21 years making 800 appearances for the Hammers making him the leading all-time appearance record holder by far. It was so sad for the Hammers fans never to see their man called up to the English squad. The Englishman was most likely to be called up against the friendly against Brazil in 1981 but was rulled out due to the injury sustained on the last day of the 1980/81 season.

3. Jimmy Greenhoff

In third is Jimmy Greenhoff. The English man played for a number of teams but he is remembered for his time eeds United, Birmingham City, Stoke City and Manchester United. The talented footballer scored a shy 200 goals in 750 appearances during his playing career. In his 21 year playing career, he won a total of six trophies, including the FA Cup and the League title twice.

Greenholf was called up to play for the England under 23 but was never a full England international.

2. Jimmy Case

Jimmy Case was part of the amazing Liverpool team of the 1970s. When one looks at Jimmy Case achievement, they would wonder why the English man never won a cap for the English national team. In eight years at Anfield, Jimmy Case played around 200 games for the club, winning 4 league titles, three European Cups, four Charity Shields, one UEFA Cup and many others.

Renowned for his tremendous left foot when he cuts in from the wing, he was named the European footballer of the year in 1978, but still failed to win a full international cap with England.

1. Albert Stubbins

One of the perfect examples of what we call a complete forward. Albert Stubbins was one of the deadliest forwards in English football before world war ll. He was a player who was capable of scoring goals, creating goals and bringing his teammates together into the game. He scored 188 goals in 231 unofficial war time fixtures. By the time the world war ll came to an end, Albert Stubbins was one of the highly regarded forwards in the country and was set for a British record move to Liverpool in 1946.

In his first season at Anfield, he scored an outstanding 24 goals and won the League title wich also appeared to be his last when they lost the FA Cup in 1950 leaving Liverpool with 83 goals in 178 matches for the Reds. It’s surprising that the English man never won a full international cap whilst playing for Liverpool.
