Lionel Messi wins the Golden Ball for the record 8th time
The 36-year-old previously won the Ballon d’Or in 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2015, 2019 and 2021. Lionel Messi won the FIFA World Cup trophy last year and was in great form last season.
The Inter Miami forward scored seven goals and provided three assists in Qatar. He won the Golden Ball, becoming the first-ever player to win the prize on more than one occasion. He was also second in the Golden Boot race behind Kylian Mbappe.
The 36-year-old netted 21 goals and provided 20 assists in 41 appearances during his final season with PSG. He won the Ligue 1 title for the club.

The Ballon d’ Or Feminin was presented to Barcelona and Spain midfielder Aitana Bonmati Messi.
Tennis player Novak Djokovic presented this award to Aitana Bonmati. She was key player in La Roja’s World Cup-winning crop in 2023.
The 25-year-old midfielder scored three goals and provided two assists in seven World Cup starts for Spain. She also won the Golden Ball as the tournament’s best performer.
Real Madrid and England midfielder Jude Bellingham won the Kopa Trophy for the best Under-21 player.
Bellingham becomes the first English winner of the Kopa Trophy, two years after finishing as runner-up to Pedri in 2021.
The Yashin Trophy for the best goalkeeper was awarded to Argentina’s Emiliano Martinez who also won the Golden Glove in the 2022 World Cup.
