Arsenal and Manchester City are both interested in strengthening their defence this month.

Both the Gunners and City are in the market to improve their defence. Manchester City first enquired about Jonny Evans and are ready to make a move for the ex-Manchester United player.

It is now believed that Arsenal are leading the race to sign the Jonny Evans, from West Brom.

Arsene Wenger is short on cover having had to rely on usual full-back Nacho Monreal in the heart of his defence. Pep Guardiola, similarly, cannot rely on injury-plagued captain Vincent Kompany. As a reason, Eliaquim Mangala has been forced to make 14 appearances this season.

According to reports, the defender will cost £25m and Wenger is keen on wrapping up the deal soon. He is also ready to include  Mathieu Debuch in the deal.

He has not made a single appearance in the Premier League this season and wants to leave the Emirates in the winter window to get a regular first-team football, with Arsenal happy to let him leave if it means they sign Evans.
