Atletico Madrid president, Enrique Cerezo, has revealed that the club only received half of Diego Costa’s transfer fee.
The Spaniard completed a Summer move to Premier League side, Chelsea, for a deal worth around £32million, but according to Cerezo, the club only received half of that.
According to reports, the Spanish champions only received £16m for their star-man, with the other £16m going to third-party ownership, and the club president has admitted that the deal was poorly done on their side.
“He is one of the best strikers in the world,” Cerezo said.
“His departure was hastened because we had a weak moment in which we couldn’t say no.
“If it was to happen now, he wouldn’t go.
“The economic issue hasn’t been good for us as we got 50 per cent of what was said. It was more about money for him.”
Costa has already scored nine league goals for Chelsea this season.
