Premier League sides alerted

This season has been shadowed by constant speculation about his future with his contract running out and nothing appearing to be done about it.

The 25-year-old recently turned down a new contract at the club after being offered a lower wage, with the club president stating that the club cannot afford to keep him. Speaking of his decision to leave the club at which he has been a part of for ten years, Ayew said:

Ayew Expects Exit

“The president has spoken, therefore things have been said, more or less. We know I’m going to leave the club. This is a page that will turn,”

“There are many things behind it. We tried to find solutions that I stay but, for the club and me, it was a bit complicated, whether in sport or financial aspects.

“I expected more. I wanted the club to have a competitive team next year to play the title and it is not ensured, and the club could not offer me the same wage.”

Premier League Interest

The statement has put a handful of Premier League clubs on red alert as they prepare to fight for his signature. Arsenal, Manchester United, Liverpool and Newcastle United are all thought to have a keen interest in bringing Ayew to their respective grounds.

Ayew may however, have a personal preference having stated to Sky Sports News earlier this year that it would be an “honour” to play for Liverpool, citing Steven Gerrard as his favourite player, and that “all his life he has been a Liverpool fan”.

Marseille currently sit fourth in Ligue 1, behind PSG, Lyon and Monaco, leading Ayew to believe that the club are not strong enough to mount a challenge in the near future.

Ayew has scored a total of 58 goals in 188 appearances for Marseille, netting nine times in 24 appearances this season.
