Chelsea are looking to make the move for their on-loan midfield star Mateo Kovacic permanent.

The Blues have opened negotiations with the Croatian midfielder’s parent club Real Madrid.

Chelsea are ready to make Mateo Kovacic’s move from Real Madrid permanent. The Croatian midfield star arrived last summer at Stamford on loan from Real Madrid and has been a vital cog in the Chelsea lineup in their good run in the Premier League. He has developed a brilliant partnership with Jorginho, who also arrived at Chelsea during the summer and N’Golo Kante and has provided immense stability to the Blues’ midfield, which has prompted the west London club to make his move permanent next summer.

The 24 year old was visibly frustrated with the bits-and-pieces role that he had to play in the Real Madrid team and was looking to make a move to a club where he could get a more significant role to play. A move to Chelsea made his desire to play in the first team on a regular basis reality.

According to the Evening Standard, Kovacic has said that he is happy to be at Chelsea. The Croatian ace said,  “I’m really happy at Chelsea. The city is amazing, the fans are great, the stadium, everything is nice, so I could imagine myself here. After two years of struggling in Madrid, playing and then not playing, it was difficult. You don’t have the confidence, you don’t try the things you know.”

He added, “This was my decision to go. Chelsea came, I spoke with the coach and the club. It was definitely just Chelsea for me. I wanted to come here and I am happy that it happened.” The 24 year old is touted to be the replacement for the Balon d’Or winner Luka Modric at Real Madrid but his desire to stay at Chelsea has put that possibility in doubt.
