Liverpool have made a world record in signing AS Roma goalkeeper Alisson Becker.
Liverpool have made a huge signing today in the capture of talented Brazilian goalkeeper Alisson Becker from AS Roma.
The 26-year-old cost Liverpool around £66.8 million- a world record fee for a goalkeeper. The Brazilian signed a six-year contract.
Liverpool have been linked with the goalkeeper for only recently, but they have been in the market fora top goalkeeper ever since Loris Karius made those huge blunders that cost Liverpool the Champions League final. Of course it wasn’t just one game either, Karius was their weak link on multiple occasions.
It’s unknown yet whether Karuis will leave, or Mignolet.
But Becker, after having just signed officially, said:”In terms of my life and my career, it’s a huge step for me being part of this club and this family.
Becker has been playing for Roma for two years and has shown fans why exactly he’s a great signing from his impressive displays in the Champions League and Serie A.
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp described Alisson as “one of the world’s best goalkeepers”.
“At one point in the last few weeks it came up, the opportunity to sign one of the world’s best goalkeepers,”Klopp said. “The owners were quite excited, so we did it.
“He has nothing to do with the price, we have nothing to do with the price, it’s the market, that’s how it is and we will not think a lot about it.
“He needs to adapt to the English Premier League, that’s how it is. The league is different, the refs are different, the goalkeeper’s life is different in the Premier League.
“But that’s not important now because again, we got him here because of his existing strengths, which is in all goalkeeper departments the highest level.”
Liverpool’s signing of Becker will likely trigger a number of other moves as Chelsea wait for their replacement before letting first-choice goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois go to Real Madrid. Chelsea were hoping to sign Becker so this news will come as a big blow to them.
