Manchester United FC Squad 2019 – First Team 2018/19

Manchester United FC squad. Here is the Manchester United FC Squad 2018/19. The January transfer window 2019 is closed and the Summer transfer window 2018 will open in a few months and we have the full Manchester United tansfers list 2019 with all new player signings 2018/19.

Manchester United have had a mixed season compared to their original expectations. With the arrival of Jose Mourinho, United were expected to do very big things. They had their sights set on Premier League glory. However, neither of those ambitions were met. This season they are second in the Premier League well behind league leaders Manchester City. They are still in the Champions League and the FA Cup. Jose will have to take a good look at his squad ahead of the 2018/19 season.

The signings he made in the 2016/17 season had mixed results. The most notable among them were world-record signing, midfielder Paul Pogba. He arrived from Juventus for £89million. However, if we’re being honest, Pogba has not yet justified such a high price tag. Perhaps their best signing of the season was the veteran striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who arrived for free. He had a fantastic season at Old Trafford but got injured late on. This season, they have signed Alexis Sanchez in the January transfer window 2018 which was a major coup. They have also signed Romelu Lukaku prior to the 2017/18 season but he has failed to impress this season.

Manchester United 2019 targets

United have been linked with several players so far this season. They have been linked with Antoine Griezmann, the Atletico Madrid striker. Any deal struck for him would likely better the £89 million paid for Pogba last season, meaning another world-record. At the back, they are now being linked with Tottenham’s Toby Alderweireld. He would be a good partner for Eric Bailly. Bailly signed last summer and has impressed in a United shirt this season. Additionally, Jose Mourinho is said to be keen on signing Inter Milan winger Ivan Perisic. The Croatian impressed many for his displays at the World Cup.

  • David De Gea
  • Sergio Romero
  • Lee Grant

David De Gea and Sergio Romero have been the featured goalkeepers for United this season. De Gea has played most of the league games and has been outstanding as usual. Though he did not start as expected this season, the Spaniard has done well to get back to his form and has dished out a number of outstanding performances under the new manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

  • Eric Bailly
  • Phil Jones
  • Luke Shaw
  • Marcos Rojo
  • Chris Smalling
  • Antonio Valencia
  • Matteo Darmian
  • Victor Lindelof
  • Diogo Dalot
  • Ashley Young

United have had mixed fortunes in their defending this season. Sometimes they are great at the back, but other times, they are woeful. Eric Bailly has been a good addition to the squad, and Antonio Valencia has been great as a makeshift right-back. The addition of Victor Lindelof from Benfica will be good for United, as he is a big leader who will add quality to their situation at the back. Mourinho paid £31.5million for his services.

Under Solskjaer however, Ashley Young has taken on the armband in absence of Valencia who has been injured for some time now. He has done a commendable job as the right back. The likes of Phil Jones and Victor Lindelof have stepped up well since December as they have mostly been used by the new manager.

  • Paul Pogba
  • Juan Mata
  • Jesse Lingard
  • Fred
  • Nemanja Matic
  • Ander Herrera
  • Scott McTominay

United’s midfield was strong last season despite injury problems. Paul Pogba was one of the standouts, although he didn’t quite perform to the standard we expected. However, he has been outstanding since the appointment of Solskjaer as the manager and has notched up 12 goals to show for his efforts.

Marouane Fellaini has left Old Trafford for China in January. Ander Herrera and Nemanja Matic have also been good in their efforts from the midfield.

  • Anthony Martial
  • Romelu Lukaku
  • Marcus Rashford
  • Alexis Sanchez

These are the strikers in the Manchester United FC squad. Marcus Rashford has equally impressed as he burst onto the scene in the 2015/16 season and has continued to show good form this season under Jose Mourinho.

Wayne Rooney was a man who struggled last season. He had been at United since 2004 but went back to Everton this summer to try and get some more playing time. He has been replaced by £75million striker Romelu Lukaku, who came the other way from Goodison. The Belgian came 2nd in the PL Golden Boot race last season, scoring 25 goals. Manchester United signed Alexis Sanchez from Arsenal with Henrikh Mkhitaryan going the other way.
