Manchester United have had a mixed season compared to their original expectations. With the arrival of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, United were expected to do very big things. They had their sights set on qualifying for the Champions League. However, neither of those ambitions were met. This season they are fourth in the Premier League behind Tottenham, Manchester City and Liverpool. They will be playing in the Europa League this season.
Manchester United have bolstered their defensive personnel with the signings of Harry Maguire and Aaron Wan-Bissaka. The arrival of two players is slowly starting to show a positive impact, albeit the Red Devils have had a rocky start to the season. United have also Daniel James to bolster the right-wing as Solskjaer looks to build a team with a British core of players. James has had an impressive start to the campaign, scoring 3 goals in the first five games for the club.
Manchester United 2020 targets
Manchester United were readying themselves for a major summer overhaul after appointing Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as the permanent boss. However, the Red Devils’ net spend was just 75m this summer; United were linked with a massive number of players this summer. The standouts amongst them were Bruno Fernandes, Christian Eriksen and Paulo Dybala.
United were in major need of a striker and a midfielder following the departures of Marouane Fellaini, Ander Herrera and Romelu Lukaku. However, any deal for the aforementioned transfer targets failed to materialise due to various reasons.
Solskjaer and co decided to stop pursuing Dybala predicting that the Juventus forward was more interested in making money rather than playing for the club. They also said no to Bruno Fernandes saying that the Portuguese media had hyped up the rumours. A move for Eriksen failed to come to fruition as the Dane was more interested in a move to Spain.
