Manchester United have had a mixed season compared to their original expectations. With the arrival of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, United were expected to do very big things. They had their sights set on qualifying for the Champions League. However, neither of those ambitions were met. Last season they finished third in the Premier League behind Liverpool and Manchester City. They will be playing in the Champions League this season.
Manchester United have bolstered their defensive personnel with the signings of Harry Maguire and Aaron Wan-Bissaka. The arrival of two players is slowly starting to show a positive impact, albeit the Red Devils have had a rocky start to the season. United have also Daniel James to bolster the right-wing as Solskjaer looks to build a team with a British core of players. James has had an impressive start to the campaign, scoring 3 goals in the first five games for the club. Their biggest impact in the squad was the January arrival of Bruno Fernandes from Sporting CP. He completely turned the club around with his quality and attitude and had an instant effect the moment he stepped on the pitch

David De Gea has featured for Manchester United in all games this season. It had been a tough year for the Spaniard due to the numbers of goalkeeping blunders he was responsible for last season. It’s sad to see the decline of a once-great goalkeeper. Meanwhile, Dean Henderson returned to Old Trafford after his two-year loan spell at Sheffield United and signed a new five-year contract with the Red Devils.

United had a lacklustre defence for many years since Sir Alex Ferguson left the club. However, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has made the right moves in signing Harry Maguire and Aaron Wan-Bissaka who have bolstered the ailing backline with their presence. Victor Lindelof has cemented his position in the heart of the defence alongside Maguire, while Luke Shaw has made the left-back position his own. The defensive personnel of Solskjaer looks pretty set with Eric Bailly, Phil Jones, Axel Tuanzebe, Diogo Dalot, Brandon Williams and Timothy Fosu-Mensah serving as deputies for the above quartet.

Bruno Fernandes was the standout performer for Manchester United last season. The Reds are yet to lose a game in the Premier League since the arrival of the Portuguese midfielder in January. Since his arrival, United collected 32 points in just 14 games. With the departures of Ander Herrera and Marouane Fellaini, the Red Devils are short adequate quality options in the midfield. But has changed with the arrival of Donny van de Beek from Ajax in the summer transfer window. We are yet to see how the Dutch international fits in the United squad.
Manchester United squad 2020/21 – all Man United forwards 2020
- Anthony Martial
- Mason Greenwood
- Daniel James
- Marcus Rashford
- Odion Ighalo
Manchester United sold Romelu Lukaku to Inter Milan this summer without buying a replacement. However, Solskjaer has shown his faith in youngsters by promoting the supremely-talented Mason Greenwood to shoulder the responsibilities of playing as a first-team attacker. The 18-year old became the first teenager after Wayne Rooney to score nine goals for United.
Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial will have a big role to play as they will act as the seniors to the newly-promoted youngsters. The duo will have to set good examples as forwards. United new boy Daniel James had a tough season last year scoring only four goals and seven assists in all competitions. It remains to be seen how he performs as the new season progresses.
