Real Madrid’s high-profile signings this summer persist as the club announces the signing of French left-back Ferland Mendy on a 6-year deal. There were several reports linking Mendy to a move to Real Madrid. Lyon denied these reports but now, Mendy has indeed signed for Los Blancos.

The 24-year leaves Olympique Lyon with 3 goals and 7 assists in 79 appearances across all competitions since signing for the club from Le Havre on a transfer fee of €5 million. This season, Mendy scored 3 goals and provided as many assists in 44 appearances across all competitions. His performances for Lyon attracted attention from many top clubs.

Due to his impressive performances for Lyon, Mendy earned a maiden call-up to the France team and made his international debut against Uruguay. He also appeared in France’s recent Euro qualifiers against Turkey and Andorra.

Zinedine Zidane is eager for a full squad overhaul this summer and Mendy is another big addition to their squad following Eder Militao, Luka Jovic and Eden Hazard. Mendy’s addition will certainly help the left-back situation at the club as Marcelo did not have the best of seasons in 2018/19.

Mendy’s presentation will take place next Thursday at the Santiago Bernabeu.
