Romano reveals Marc Cucurella’s next move after surprise Man Utd transfer failure
Fabrizio Romano, the transfer expert, disclosed Marc Cucurella’s next move following his shocking failure to negotiate a move to Manchester United.
Despite a bright start at Chelsea, Cucurella’s have trouble to convince Mauricio Pochettino has raised questions about his future.
Cucurella arrived at Stamford Bridge with big expectations and a huge price tag, but has battled to establish himself in the club, making only 12 appearances this season. With Pochettino planning major shifts, the Spaniard’s departure appears likely.
According to Romano, the 25-year-old’s return to LaLiga is imminent, with many clubs expressing interest.
“Marc Cucurella – the Chelsea left-back has been linked with a return to La Liga,” Romano told Caught Offside.
“My understanding is that he is one of the situations to be assessed at the end of the season. Cucurella, [Trevoh] Chalobah and more…these players are waiting to see what Chelsea decide to do in terms of project, tactical plans for next season, the manager situation.”
Manchester United remains a possibility, but it is less likely considering the Red Devils’ other goals.
A similar move to Old Trafford almost went through last summer and now Romano has shed light on that transfer breakdown.
“Cucurella was available on loan in the final days of August last year but deal with Man United collapsed because Man Utd wanted to include a break clause for January and Chelsea rejected.”
Real Betis, Real Sociedad, Atletico Madrid, Girona, Valencia, and Getafe have all emerged as potential destinations for Cucurella, offering him a chance to revive his career in familiar surroundings.
Although his contract with Chelsea runs until 2028, a loan move may be the most viable option to facilitate his departure.
As speculation mounts, all signs point to Cucurella bidding farewell to the Premier League and finding a new home in LaLiga come next season.
