AS Roma complete the signing of French midfielder Steven N’Zonzi from Sevilla at a fee reported to be £28.5 million. N’Zonzi was previously linked to Arsenal before Roma entered the race.
Roma confirmed his signing on Twitter by posting a video where the 29-year old defensive midfielder was taking pictures with fans after arriving at Rome’s Ciampino airport.
N’Zonzi joined Sevilla in 2015 from Stoke City at a fee of £7 million. He played 136 matches for the club, scoring 8 goals and providing 7 assists. He helped Sevilla win the 2015-16 Europa League. N’Zonzi was named in the tournament’s squad of the season.
N’Zonzi was also a part of France’s World Cup triumph in Russia this summer. He made five substitute appearances for the team during the tournament.
Roma coach Eusebio di Francesco is keen to rebuild his squad following the departures of stars Radja Nainggolan and Alisson. N’Zonzi is Roma’s 14th signing in the summer transfer window. Roma’s other signings include Javier Pastore, Robin Olsen and Justin Kluivert.
Roma begin their Serie A campaign on Sunday against Torino at Turin.
