This tactic is one of his typical Jose Mourinho scapegoats when he was in charge of Real Madrid.
Sure pitches can play a massive part in games, but Mourinho went all the way and blamed the pitch for Real Madrid’s poor start to a campaign.
Following a 3-0 win over Espanyol, Mourinho said:Â “The play was not good but I’m satisfied. The team was tired, we were up against a rival with nothing to lose and we were playing on a potato field.”
A few days after, the Bernabeu had a new pitch laid.
