3. Anthony Martial- Monaco to Manchester United (£36 million)
By far the biggest transfer fee splashed out on deadline day was of course Manchester United, and their audacious capture of the yet untried and tested Anthony Martial.
Being just 19 year old, the £36 million pricetag will shock many, but it looks like that’s how clubs, in particular Manchester United operate in this day and age.
Comparisons will be made between Martial’s signing, and that of Cristiano Ronaldo and Wayne Rooney. Ronaldo was bought to compliment what United had at that time under Sir Alex Ferguson, and was bought for the future.
Same with Rooney, but Martial is expected to start performing and scoring goals straight away.
It is a huge gamble, and the pressure on the young man will be immense. But he’s still got huge potential, and despite the transfer fee, it could be a great signing.
