Buttner: I Don’t Want To Leave Old Trafford

0

Alexander Buttner insists he does not want to leave Manchester United.

The Dutchman’s position at Old Trafford has been under threat ever since new manager David Moyes made his big-money bid for Leighton Baines during the summer, and then switched his attentions to Fabio Coentrao on transfer deadline-day – although neither move came off.

As Moyes has since spoken passionately about Patrice Evra’s influence at United, it pointed firmly to Buttner being ushered out of the exit door.

The 24-year-old has been linked with moves to both Galatasaray and Tottenham in recent weeks and given the problems Moyes is presently wrestling with at United, Buttner could be forgiven for feeling a move is the best solution to his own lack of opportunities.

However, speaking after Sunday’s 2-1 FA Cup defeat by Swansea, when he was handed only his fifth start of the campaign, the former Vitesse Arnhem defender was adamant nothing could be further from the truth.

“I know there are some clubs that want me but I’m happy here and want to play for Manchester United,” said Buttner.

“I don’t want to leave. I want to fight for my place.

“I don’t care if people talk about other players in my position. I just want to play my game and show that I can handle this level.

“I know what I can do. I am still young and focussed 100 percent on being here. I just have to wait for my chance and take it.”

On another desperate day for United, Buttner was one of the few who emerged with any credit.

In the first-half particularly, he exploited the space down United’s left flank, delivered a superb cross for Javier Hernandez equaliser and created danger for Swansea on numerous other occasions.

“The players know that I will always try to cross the ball, which is why Javier got his goal,” said Buttner.

“It was nice to play. I want to play every game. But it is hard because we lost. If we win, the feeling is different.”

Solskjaer Close On New Signings

0

Cardiff manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is closing in on his first signings as Bluebirds boss.

The 40-year-old has targeted the midfield duo of Magnus Wolff Eikrem and Mats Moller Daehli, both capped by Norway, who he worked with at former club Molde and while in charge of the Manchester United reserve team.

Eikrem, 23, is currently at Dutch club Heerenveen having been sold by Molde last summer, but he attended Cardiff’s FA Cup win at Newcastle on Saturday and has travelled back to south Wales to undergo a medical.

Press Association Sport understands the deal will be worth around £2million and should be completed before the upcoming Premier League game against West Ham.

It is understood Daehli, 18, is also set to undergo a medical and complete a switch from Molde in the coming days.

Cardiff have also been linked with moves for Blackpool’s Tom Ince and Crystal Palace’s Jonathan Williams, as well as a loan deal for Manchester United’s Wilfried Zaha.

Mikel: Jose Is Giving Chelsea Winning Mentality

0

The midfielder believes Jose is adding a winning mentality to Chelsea

John Obi Mikel believes Jose Mourinho is beginning to instil a winning mentality into Chelsea’s players, who are starting to realise that second is not good enough for the Blues.

Mourinho’s men are well placed to win silverware this season and Mikel, signed by Mourinho during the manager’s first spell, believes it is imperative his team-mates understand that winning every game matters to Chelsea, after recent seasons where the Blues’ focus has slipped in some competitions.

“If you don’t play for Chelsea, you don’t know what these trophies mean to this club,” Mikel said.

“It’s not a team where if you come second, third or fourth, it doesn’t matter. No.

“Every year you have to win something and this is the pressure.

“It’s a matter of letting them know what it means when you come to the end of the season, what the Premier League and Champions League means to this club.

“Now they’re here, they have to feel the pressure and they are feeling it right now. “That’s why we just want to keep doing well and now they’re starting to understand that we don’t want to get beaten.

“We just want to keep going and hopefully come the end of the season they will start to show the winning mentality even more that the manager is trying to install into them and we go on from there and win trophies.”

Chelsea won the 2012 Champions League and 2013 Europa League, but finished 25 and 14 points adrift in the Premier League in the last two seasons and have won the championship once since Mourinho’s departure, in 2009/10. Just eight members of that squad remain.

Since the extra-time Capital One Cup quarter-final loss at Sunderland, Chelsea have won four of their five games, conceding one goal, in a productive festive period.

The Blues are third in the Premier League, two points behind leaders Arsenal, and play Stoke in the fourth round of the FA Cup after a 2-0 win at Sky Bet Championship promotion hopefuls Derby on Sunday.

Mourinho’s methods have seen Juan Mata, Chelsea’s player of the year in each of the past two seasons, marginalised this term, while Kevin De Bruyne has struggled to claim a first-team place.

De Bruyne is known to want to move on a permanent basis this month and his agent was on Monday pictured in Abu Dhabi, where Wolfsburg are training during the Bundesliga’s winter break.

Mata has been told the door is open if he wishes to ask for a move, but Mourinho wants both players to stay and compete for their places.

Mikel warned anyone not prepared to adapt to Mourinho’s ways will not play and cited the work ethic of Eden Hazard, Oscar and Willian of examples of players prepared to do as they are told.

“He always wants us to play in a certain way and give 110 per cent,” Mikel added. “If you don’t, you’re out.

“As a player that’s what you want. You don’t want to slack.

“That’s the mentality he wants in this team and slowly but surely the likes of Eden Hazard, Oscar and Willian are beginning to do that.

“You can see by the way we press up the pitch. That is important for the team and we’re doing well.”

Mikel is firmly allied to Mourinho, who praised the discipline of the Nigeria midfielder after the Derby win, which saw him net a fourth Chelsea goal on his 300th club appearance.

“He’s like a manager-player, because he does exactly what you tell him to do in terms of position,” Mourinho told Chelsea TV.

“His qualities are not, for sure, scoring goals. Tactically he’s very clever. He knows where he has to be, gives great balance to the team.

“He’s one of these players normally called ‘invisible’ players.

“They do the job and many times they don’t get the recognition (they deserve).”

AC Milan capture Honda.

0

AC Milan have completed the signing of Japanese playmaker Kaisuke Hondra from Russian club CSKA Moscow, with Honda signing a deal until the Summer of 2017.

The Japanese international stated in an interview regarding his move to Serie A.

Milan are a legend, it’s a dream come true,” Honda told the Milan Channel television station on his arrival at the city’s airport ahead of his official presentation on Wednesday.

“I know the situation, I know that everyone is expecting a lot from me. For my part, I believe I can do something special. I am confident.”

Honda’s move to the Italian giants will be vital for Milan, who have struggled for form this year, sitting just five points above the relegation zone in the top tier of Italian Football, with the Rossanari suffering problems both on, and off the hallowed turf of the San Siro, with allegations of corruption surrounding the clubs directors.

Honda’s arrival will come as a welcomed break for supporters, with Milan supporters hoping that Honda can have a positive impact on the second half of the current Serie A season.

The 27-year-old midfielder, who will be crucial to Japan’s hopes at the World Cup later this year, spent three years in Moscow, and was a key member of a successful CSKA squad.

Honda was a recent target for Premier League clubs Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United, but decided on a move to Milan.

Theo Walcott ruled out for six months

0

Arsenal’s Theo Walcott has been ruled out for the rest of the season – and the World Cup finals in Brazil – after suffering an anterior cruciate ligament injury during the FA Cup third round win over Tottenham on Saturday.

An Arsenal statement read: “After coming off injured in Saturday’s 2-0 win against Tottenham Hotspur, the club regrettably announces that Theo Walcott has sustained a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament of his left knee.

“Theo will have surgery in London in the near future and is expected to be out for at least six months, therefore missing the remainder of the season and the World Cup in Brazil in the summer. Everyone at Arsenal wishes Theo a speedy recovery and we look forward to seeing him back on a football pitch as soon as possible.”

Liverpool line up January deal for Udinese star Emmanuel Agyemang-Badu

0

Reds boss Rodgers is desperate to bring in a handful of new players in the new year, having recently bemoaned the club’s lack of depth.

And while adding another full-back remains a clear priority, Liverpool are also in need of a natural defensive midfielder, and Ghanaian Agyemang-Badu is a new target.

The 23-year-old is rising star in Serie A and has been personally recommended to Rodgers by his European scouts.

Liverpool have been informed of the player’s desire to play in the Premier League, and are now planning a £7million bid.

Agyemang-Badu can play in both midfield and defence, meaning he would provide valuable cover as Rodgers’ men chase Champions League football.

Arsenal and Tottenham have both previously scouted the player, who is famed for his powerful and aggressive approach.

Villa chasing Norwich midfielder

0

Aston Villa hope £1.5 million is enough to secure the signature of Norwich City’s Wes Hoolahan,

The claret and blue chief is hunting an attacking midfielder after they were dumped out of the FA Cup by Sheffield United on Saturday.

The Blades’ 2-1 win embarrassed the claret and blues at Villa Park and heightened the need for new recruits, with Lambert reportedly having bid £1.5m for Norwich’s Hoolahan.

“I call them No10s. I think people who can make things happen are important, because they take a risk and they take a chance,” said Lambert, who is also interested in Porto’s Steven Defour. “If you can get somebody like that in your side they can make things happen.

“They’re a special type of player, they know how to get into little pockets on the pitch to try and make things happen and that’s something you try and look at. They’re worth their weight in gold if you can get them – and pretty dear.”

But Lambert refused to talk directly about Hoolahan, who was left out of Norwich’s squad for their 1-1 draw with Fulham.

“It’s not fair to talk about other team’s players,” he added. “I don’t think that’s right. He’s a Norwich player and like any player we go for, I don’t think it’s right to comment.”

Canaries boss Chris Hughton denied Hoolahan’s absence on Saturday was because of Villa’s interest and said he was injured.

The Ireland international played under Lambert for three years at Carrow Road and won back-to-back promotions from League One to the Premier League with the Scot.

He has 18 months left on his current deal and has started just five league games for the Canaries this season.

Defour’s agent Paul Stefani confirmed Villa have made contact but it is yet to go further.

“It is not yet concrete, and it is the same story for other clubs that I can’t name,” he said.

“Steven is certainly open to joining an attractive club on condition that they offer him more playing time than he has at present.

“He’s not unhappy at Porto but he needs to be playing regularly with an eye on the World Cup.”

Chelsea’s Alonso chase continues

0

During the January transfer window, there have been lots of transfer rumours surrounding Chelsea in terms of who leaves and who joins. But the most noteable star the Chelsea boss is reportedly interested in next is Real Madrid star Xabi Alonso.

Mourinho coached Alonso during his time with the La Liga side so there is already a close connection between the two, but Chelsea are still far from signing the Spanish international.

With Alonso’s contract expiring at the end of the seaosn, Mourinho will be keen to get his signature and return him to the Premier League where he enjoyed 5 successful years with Liverpool.

However the Spaniard hinted at a possible Madrid stay as he told Fuera de Serie-Magazine: “It’s extremely intense playing in this team, in both a good and a bad sense. You’re constantly in the public eye.

“The pressure, the demands and the responsibility are far greater here – Fortunately, I’ve always felt loved by the club and the fans.”

Alonso hasn’t been a main feature in Carlo Ancelotti’s side this season, starting just 6 games in the league without any goals or assists.

With certain Chelsea midfielders linked with moves out of Stamford Bridge, the Cheslea boss will be keen to land the signature of an experienced midfielder, with whom he has a very strong relationship.

Chelsea ready to begin Matic deal

0

Nemenja Matic left Chelsea for Benfica in 2011 in a deal which saw David Luiz make the opposite move. Despite this, Brazilian midfielder Ramires has urged his boss to bring Matic back to West London.

With Chelsea idntified as the main team in the race to sign the 25 year-old, Benfica are willing to listen to offers, according to Portugese publication O Jogo.

There is increasing financial pressure on Benfica due to their failure to progress in the Champions League, and offloading Matic would certainly help the Portugese side.

O Jogo claim however that Benfica will want to wait until after their clash with league rivals FC Porto on January 12 before starting negotiations.

With the future of some Chelsea players uncertain, Mourinho will be keen to sign a young talent who can help his squad compete for the Premier League title.

Ferdinand may leave United in the summer.

0

Manchester United’s veteran central defender Rio Ferdinand is set to leave Old Trafford in the summer, when his current contract expires.

Recenly appointed manager David Moyes is looking to stamp his own authority on the squad, building the United squad with fresh, hungry young Footballers, to lead United into the next few years.

And it appears that Ferdinand, aged 35, is not part of Moyes’ plans, having been back up in the United squad earlier this season, before starting his first game for several months against Hull City in December, after an injury lay off.

Ferdinand hasn’t been able to force his way back into the squad on a regular basis, with Jonny Evans, Phil Jones and Chris Smalling currently infront of the former England captain in the pecking order.

Ferdinand’s prospects of earning a new deal are understood to be bleak.

Although Moyes has regularly turned to Ferdinand for United’s Champions League fixtures, the 35-year-old has made just one appearance in the league since the end of September.

The defender had been an ever present at the start of the Moyes reign, having started all five of the club’s opening Premier League games this season before his injury.

Ferdinand signed for United from bitter rivals Leeds United, for a fee of £18 million in the summer of 2002, and has gone onto make 305 appearances for the Red Devils.

Ferdinand, along with brother Anton, started his career at East London side West Ham United, and was part of the successful academy of players, including Joe Cole, Jermaine Defoe, Michael Carrick and Frank Lampard amongst others.

The veteran defender has already accepted media based work for BT Sport and the BBC, with Ferdinand being named as a BBC pundit for this summer’s World Cup showpiece in Brazil.

Rumours are persisting that the MLS could be calling for Ferdinand, with a number of sides expressing their interest, he has also been linked with a move to former club West Ham, and middle Eastern clubs.

Arsene Wenger defends size of squad

0

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger believes his side is bigger than what people think.

Many pundits have suggested that Wenger doesn’t have enough depth at his disposal in order to win silverware this year, but the Frenchman seems to disagree with them.

During the weekend’s FA Cup clash with Tottenham Hotspur, Wenger made four changes overal to his starting XI, yet they still managed to comfortably see off Tim Sherwood’s men thanks to goals from Santi Cazorla and Tomas Rosicky.

After the game, Wenger was questioned about transfers this month and was asked whether his squad lacks depth in order to win the title, but the Frenchman seems adamant that his squad is bigger than what people suggest.

“We have a bigger squad than people expect,” he said. “Especially when you see people like Gnabry – we had Gibbs and Ramsey out – [it shows] we have plenty of players who can compete for a place in the team.

“I loved Serge’s game because he is not only an individual talent but his position on the pitch was right ands his contribution to the team work was right. He gave two or three balls to score and I like that, it’s a sign of quality.

“I will give him more games but he plays on the right in the position where Walcott plays, but he can play on the left as well. It’s about balance in the team as well, and about the balance between attacking and defending. He’s a very intelligent player.”

“We are like everyone, we look out there and see what is happening,” he said. “Unless you have a club in a desperate financial situation it will be difficult.”

Hughes staying at Derby.

0

Derby County midfielder Will Hughes is to remain with Derby County, and will not be signing for a Barclays Premier League side in the January transfer window, amid speculation about his future.

Chief executive Simon Rush has stated that the English prodigy will not leave Pride Park, and has reassured Derby supporters that Hughes will remain at the club for the long term.

Supporters of the club have feared that Steve McClaren’s recent transfer dealings could have paved the way for a Premier League move for Hughes.

McClaren has had a fine start at the East Midlands side, with the Rams sitting in 4th in the Championship after just one defeat since McClaren took the reigns at County, following the departure of long standing manager Nigel Clough, who was sacked after the defeat in the derby against Nottingham Forest in late September.

Rumours persisted that the Andre Wisdom loan move from Liverpool would have been a stepping stone for Hughes in a possible swap deal with the Anfield club, with Brenden Rodgers a keen admirer of Hughes.

But Rush assured supporters by saying: “Will is best placed in Derby.

“There is a huge amount for him to achieve here and I don’t feel commercially it is the right time for us to entertain any other discussions.

“You look at a variety of factors when you make a decision.

“Is it right for the player?

“Has he already maximised his contribution to the club – is there any more he can do for us?

“And is he at the height of his potential in income you can generate?

“The answer to all three is ‘no’.

“There have been few bigger investors in the Championship than our owners.

“I expect they will put their hands in their pockets once again.”

Hughes burst onto the scene at Pride Park last season, but has since become a key member of an ever improving Derby County side, with the youngster playing in 23 Championship games, scoring three goals in an impressive campaign for the Rams.

The bonde bombshell is also a target for the likes of Arsenal, Tottenham and Chelsea, aswell as Liverpool, even Real Madrid and FC Barcelona are chasing the highly rated midfielder.

SIX clubs chasing Wilfried Zaha

0

According to reports, six teams are interested in signing Manchester United winger Wilfried Zaha on loan for the rest of the season.

The former-Crystal Palace prodigy has not managed to break into the United first-team under David Moyes so far this campaign and it now looks like the Englishman is set to spend the rest of the 2013/2014 season out on loan in order to gain valuable first-team experience in the Premier League.

It is believed that four of the six teams interested in the £15million-rated winger come from the Premier League, and they are apparently; Swansea City, Cardiff City, Stoke City and Norwich City.

Despite not being involved regularly in the first-team, it is still unsure whether or not Moyes is prepared to let the youngster leave on loan.

Arsenal show interest in Caceres

0

Following Juventus’ 3-0 win over League rivals AS Roma, they now sit top of Serie A, 8 points clear. And amongst those who are recognised as one of Europe’s finest talents but cannot break the first team is Martin Caceres.

Caceres, despite being only 26, has already played for some of the best clubs Europe such as Barcelona, Sevilla, Villareal, and currently Juventus. But he has been the subject of many transfer rumours after making just 2 league appearances this season, and only 20 since joining the Turin side in January 2012.

Caceres was linked with a move to Arsenal last summer but the deal fell through, but it is reported that the Gunners, who sit top of the Premier League, will be keen to make another bid.

Arsenal have struggled with injuries to key defenders this season, so they will be keen to land another centre-half, even for a loan deal.

Atletico Madrid confident of keeping duo

0

Atletico Madrid sporting director Jose Luis Perez Caminero is confident that duo Diego Costa and Koke will not be leaving the club this month, despite them being linked with moves to the English Premier League.

Madrid have been performing above expectations so far this season as they battle it out at the top with giants FC Barcelona and Real Madrid, but with such reward comes a lot of interest in their star players, and that has happened with striker Costa and midfielder Koke.

The duo have been heavily linked with moves to the Premier League with the likes of Manchester United, Chelsea and Arsenal all interested in at least one of them, but Caminero is confident that he can keep hold of his stars until the end of the season at least.

“The player has a clause of 38 millions euros and the big clubs in England know this,” he is quoted by Marca.

“Diego Costa has matured and is smart when it comes to decision making.

“Right now, Costa does not think of leaving, he is hooked on Atletico. He has re-signed a deal that is important, I am confident he will continue with us.

“I’m not surprised with this subject.

“He is a player who has improved considerably. It has also made it into the Spain squad and that puts you in the spotlight and opens more eyes.

“Koke will be with us for many years. I am convinced,” he concluded.
