Pardew signs 8 year extension at Newcastle

0

Newcastle manager, Alan Pardew, has today signed a contract extension which will see him stay at the club until 2020.

Pardew, who joined the club back in 2010 after the sacking of Chris Hughton, still had three years left on his current contract, but the club wanted to reward him for getting them into the Europa League.

Managing Director, Derek Llambias, has said that Newcaslte want to build on their current success and he believes keeping the same manager is the key to that success.

He said: “If you look at clubs like Manchester United and Arsenal, Sir Alex Ferguson and Arsene Wenger have shown that stability gives you the best platform to achieve success and that is the model we wish to emulate here.

“We’re looking to build on the success we had last season and these new contracts are aimed at keeping the club progressing on and off the pitch, as we have done since returning to the Premier League in 2010.”

Alan Pardew was rewarded with manager of the season last year after guiding Newcastle to 5th place.

Llambias added: “Alan has done a fantastic job over the last couple of years and has proved what a great Premier League manager he is.

“I have total respect for him in all football matters and have an excellent relationship with him which I think benefits the club enormously.

John Terry banned and fined!

0

Chelsea captain, John Terry, has been banned for four matches and fined £220,000 by the FA for racially abusing Queens Park Rangers defender, Anton Ferdinand.

The Football Association found Terry guilty following a four-day court hearing.

A spokesmen for the ex-England international has said that he is very ‘disappointed’ with the FA’s decision, especially after he was found not-guilty back in July by a court of law.

The Terry statement continued: “He has asked for the detailed written reasons of the decision and will consider them carefully before deciding whether to lodge an appeal.”

A statement from his club added: “Chelsea Football Club notes and respects today’s decision by the Football Association regarding John Terry.

“We also recognise that John has the right to appeal that decision. It is therefore inappropriate for us to comment further on the matter at this time.”

The Chelsea skipper now has 14 days to decide whether to appeal the decision or not.

‘I’m desperate to stay and become a legend’, says Walcott

0

Theo Walcott has ensured Arsenal fans that he is desperate to stay at the club and become a legend just like Thierry Henry. He has also insisted his current contract talks are not about money, but more about being given an opportunity to be a striker.

The English winger was strongly linked with a move away from the London side, but boss, Arsene Wenger, didn’t want to sell him, so he stayed. Theo and the club are in talks about a new contract and apparently, Walcott turned down the first contract they offered him.

Arsene Wenger has said that if the 23-year-old hasn’t signed a new contract soon, he may look at selling him in the January transfer window, but the Englishman has insisted that it’s not about the money.

“For me, it has never been about money. It has always been a football decision for me.

“If I had opportunities in the summer to go but if I wanted to go, I would have gone, if it was about money. It has never been that.

“The main factors for me now are I want to start playing up front. That is all it is, really.

He then went on to add: “I am just there now. Hopefully it can be sorted, because I want to stay, I want to play for Arsenal, I want to try and win things.

“I remember when Thierry Henry joined at 22 and the legend he was. Hopefully I can be the legend he was as well in that upfront position.”

Hazard admits to nearly joining Tottenham

0

Chelsea’s summer signing, Eden Hazard, has revealed that he nearly joined Tottenham in the summer but was put off when they failed to qualify for the Champions League.

Tottenham did finish fourth in the Premier League but lost their Champions League slot because their London rivals, Chelsea, won the actual competition.

The Belgium international also admitted that he rejected advances from both Manchester clubs during the summer as well.

Hazard said: ‘It’s true that Tottenham tempted me because it was a young team which was third in the league,’

‘Unfortunately, the end of the season did not go well. They did not reach the Champions League, which tipped the balance.’

The 21-year-old has impressed this season so far and has helped Chelsea have an unbeaten start that sees them sitting at the top of the Premier League.

Mikel Arteta backing the Gunners to fire for the title

0

Mikel Arteta believes that Arsenal’s draw at Manchester City at the weekend proves that they can challenge for the title this season.

Arsenal became only the third team to not lose at the Etihad stadium since December 2010 and the Spanish midfielder believes that Arsena are well equipped to challenge for the title this season and to end the trophy droubt.

“I don’t know what is going to happen but in the last few years it is clear that we haven’t won the Premier League title and we have been far from it,” Arteta told the London Evening Standard.

“What we are trying to do is get as close as we can and keep building that belief that we are as good as the Manchester clubs.

“If we carry on until March or April, when it is really tight and hang in there, the spirit we have got in this team can get us something.

The Gunners are currently 5th in the Premier League and still unbeaten. They face top of the table Chelsea at the weekend finding themselves only four points behind their London rivals.

Evra admits to having to shake hands with Suarez

0

Patrice Evra admits that shaking hands with Luis Suarez was important to do before kick-off because the day had to be full of respect.

The clash between fierce rivals came just a week after the revealing of the Hillsborough reports and it was set to be an emotional day for all involved with Liverpool Football Club.

The main worries before the game were to do with fans behaving and also whether Suarez and Evra would shake hands after the racism row of last year sparked conflict between the two players. Last year, Suarez rejected Evra’s handshake, but it was all different this year, as both players put out their hands and completed the shake.

‘The most important thing today was respect,’ said Evra. ‘It was a game between two big clubs.

‘There was a big tragedy. People were talking about a handshake but the stories of the clubs is bigger than that. If I hadn’t shaken Suarez’s hand, I would not be respecting the stories of the clubs.

‘In the end I am glad this time he shook my hand. More importantly, it was important to respect the families. It was not an easy day.’

He then added:
He added: ‘In the end, this time, he shook my hand and it was more important to respect the families who lost a lot of people.’

The game eventually finished 2-1 to the away side after goals from Rafael and Robin Van Persie, but overall both managers were happy with the way fans behaved.

There were only two sickening chants from the fans during and after the game. Both coming from Man United fans. The first one they sang, during the game, was about the Munich disaster and they were chanting: ‘Where’s your famous Munich song’, aiming this at Liverpool fans as they usually insult United by chanting about it.

The second vile song was heard after the full time whistle, when the travelling fans once again sang: ‘Always the victim, it’s never your fault’

However, a Liverpool fan did have to be escorted from the match after pretending to be an aeroplane, which was deemed offensive towards Manchester United, after the Munich disaster.

Koscielny strikes late to give Arsenal deserved point

0

Arsenal left Manchester today with a fully deserved point after a late Laurent Koscielny goal rescued them from the jaws of defeat.

The home side had taken the lead just before half-time when Joleon Lescott turned in a David Silva corner after Vito Mannone came out and missed his punch, but it was Arsenal’s number six who had the last laugh when he smashed home past Joe Hart with just eight minutes to go.

In a game that was dominated by the away side, it was them who had to rescue a point right at the end. Arsenal had plenty of chances in the first half, the best ones falling to Gervinho, who’s first touch was too heavy after being put through one on one from an Aaron Ramsey pass and also Podolski, who smashed over the bar after being picked out by Carl Jenkinson after the right back made a surging run.

In the 40th minute, Kieran Gibbs gave away a pointless corner after heading the ball behind his goal when he was under no pressure at all. Arsenal were then punished when a David Silva cross found Joleon Lescott’s head, who turned it home for 1-0 right before half-time. Arsenal keeper, Vito Mannone, will have to take the blame for the goal as he misjudged the ball completely and was left grasping at thin air.

The second half was very much the same. Arsenal passing the ball around City but not creating many proper chances. All throughout the game, Man City looked very dangerous on the counter, especially with Yaya Toure surging through the Arsenal midfield and back four. Despite all the possession, Arsenal could just not find a way past the City back four, but that was to change in the last ten minutes.

Santi Cazorla, who had another very impressive game at the heart of the Arsenal midfield, was found with plenty of space and then let fly with a bullet that was tipped over the bar by England stopper, Joe Hart.

However, from that resulting corner, after a bit of pinball action in the box, the ball fell to the feet of Laurent Koscielny, who lashed home the equaliser in front of the away fans. The team showed their team spirit when everyone ran over to Koscielny and bundled him in front of the travelling fans.

Right at the death, the champions had a chance to steal all three points, but Kompany’s overhead kick was saved well by Mannone and then Aguero’s shot went just wide of the far post.

Man City manager, Roberto Mancini was visibly annoyed with the result after the game: “This year we have one problem, we don’t close the game and don’t score more goals. We had three or four chances in the second half and didn’t score.

“I am frustrated about the result, because we had a chance to win and we conceded another goal. We need to work harder.

“I am sure Arsenal will fight for the title this year because they have a good team, but it is going to be difficult for everyone, especially with playing in the Champions League.”

It was a happier camp in the away dressing room though and defenders, Laurent Koscielny and Per Mertesacker were both very happy about the result and team spirit:

Laurent Koscielnywho scored the Gunners’ equaliser: “I’m very happy for the goal and the club because we did a good game. We made the comeback and we are very happy. Manchester City are champions so it is a good point.”

And his Arsenal team-mate Per Mertesacker was also pleased as punch with a point: “We had to be strong because it was difficult match. We have a great squad. We have a lot of great centre-backs. Thomas Vermaelen is at home as he is not well but Laurent came in and did well. We are a strong squad and have to stick together.”

The Arsenal boss, Arsene Wenger, wasn’t getting too carried away after the point though: “We have the potential and attitude [to be at the top],” Wenger said. “Time will tell if we can keep the attention and focus.

“We refuse to lose the game today and came back. We are happy with the team performance but a little frustrated because we had chances with Gervinho when we could have won the game. Gervinho was a danger but he was nervous in his finishing.”

Sir Alex to give letters to away fans on Sunday

0

Sir Alex Ferguson has written a letter to all travelling Man United fans for Sunday’s game against close-rivals Liverpool. He has asked that fans don’t cross the line with the rivalry and make sure that they don’t make personal attacks.

The clash at the weekend will be Liverpool’s first home game since the revealing of the Hillsborough reports and it will be an emotional day for all involved.

Before kick-off both captains will release 96 balloons in memory of the 96 people that lost their lives during the Hillsborough disaster. Now, Sir Alex Ferguson’s letter will be handed out to all travelling fans before they enter Anfield.

The letter in full

“Dear Supporter,

“The great support you gave the team here last season has seen our allocation back up to near-full levels. I want you to continue that progress today.

“But today is about much more than not blocking gangways. Today is about thinking hard about what makes United the best club in the world.

“Our rivalry with Liverpool is based on a determination to come out on top – a wish to see us crowned the best against a team that held that honour for so long.

“It cannot and should never be based on personal hatred. Just ten days ago, we heard the terrible, damning truth about the deaths of 96 fans who went to watch their team try and reach the FA Cup final and never came back.

“What happened to them should wake the conscience of everyone connected with the game.

“Our great club stands with our great neighbours Liverpool today to remember that loss and pay tribute to their campaign for justice. I know I can count on you to stand with us in the best traditions of the best fans in the game.

“Yours sincerely, Sir Alex Ferguson”.

Injury blow for United as Young out until October

0

Manchester United winger, Ashley Young, is set to be out of action for two to three weeks because of a bruised cartilage on his knee.

Sir Alex Ferguson has admitted that he won’t rush Young back into first team action, who hasn’t featured for United since August.

Ferguson said: “We’re taking our time. You can easily play with it and train but we’re not going down that road, we want to make sure he’s okay.”

On a more positive note, Manchester United, expect Wayne Rooney to be ready to play next week after he suffered a deep dash on his leg against Fulham a couple of weeks ago.

“He’s not far away. I think he may be fine for next week,” said Ferguson.

“He’s doing a lot of great training and has been working hard. It’s just a matter of getting him into the full football training side of things, which he has been part of.”

Another positive for the Red Devils is the return of Darren Fletcher and they expect to start him in the Capital One Cup when they face Newcastle.

No return of the Drog!

0

Didier Drogba have revealed he has no regrets about leaving Chelsea and the Premier League for Chinese side, Shanghai Shenhua. He has also made it clear that he intends to see out his two-and-a-half-year contract at the club.

There had been doubts over the future of Drogba and team-mate, Nicola Anelka, following reports of a power struggle at the club, but the Ivory Coast international has reassured people that he wants to stay in China until his contract ends at least.

Drogba said: ‘I’m here. I just arrived, like, two months ago,’

‘I’m really happy here – I am. I am really happy here. So I have no reasons to leave. I don’t want to leave. I want to stay here as long as I can, win some trophies with my team, and make our fans very happy.

‘It’s difficult at the moment but I know that there is hope, and I believe.’

He then added: ‘I miss the Premier League because it’s the best league in the world but, really, I don’t regret my choice.’

Drogba has made 7 appearances for the Chinese side and contributed with 5 goals.

Jack is back!

0

Arsenal midfielder, Jack Wilshere, has finally recovered from multiple injuries and has returned to first team training.

The 20-year-old has been sidelined for 14 months because of knee, ankle and foot injuries. His last appearance was in the Emirates Cup back in 2011.

Wilshere’s agent tweeted: ‘Delighted to say that Jack Wilshere was back in full 1st team training today.

‘Understandably he is a very excited young man today.’

Despite Wilshere’s progression, the Arsenal boss, is still going to be cautious with bringing him back into first team football as he wants to make sure  he is 100% ready to play in the Premier League again.

Wilshere may play in a specially arranged friendly just to build up match fitness or he may play for the U21 side when they play West Brom on October 1st.

The return of Wilshere will be exciting and good news for all Arsenal fans as they haven’t seen their young starlet for over a year now.

United skipper confident fans will respect Liverpool

0

Manchester United defender and captain, Nemanja Vidic, is confident that the club’s fans will respect the Hillsborough memorial when they play Liverpool at the weekend.

It is Liverpool’s first game at home since more information was released about the Hillsborough disaster and it is expected to be an emotional day for everyone involved at Liverpool Football Club.

Before the game the two captains will let off 96 balloons in memory of the 96 people who lost their lives in 1989 and United captain, Vidic, has said that the travelling fans will respect Liverpool and will respect the occasion.

The Serbian defender said: ‘People always try to make a big thing out of a small one but I don’t have any worries.

Old Trafford all stands for the return of Darren Fletcher

0

Darren Fletcher made his comeback from a career-threatening illness on Wednesday night during their Champions League match with Galatasaray. The Scottish international came on for Paul Scholes with 11 minutes left and he was received a standing ovation from the home supporters.

The midfielder hasn’t featured for United since last November after suffering from Crohn’s disease, which is an inflammatory bowel condition. Originally it was expected that he would have to retire, but he made a great recovery and made an emotional return to football last night.

The manager, Sir Alex Ferguson said after the game: ‘The supporters recognise what a tough time he has had for the last year,’ said manager Sir Alex Ferguson.

‘They gave him a marvellous reception.

‘He has been out of the game for a year, it took him one or two minutes to get going but he can only be better after that.’

Manchester United ended up winning the game 1-0 thanks to an 8th minute Michael Carrick goal, Nani also missed a penalty in the second half, but it didn’t matter as the Red Devils managed to hold on to the win.
