About Newcastle United

Newcastle United have always been, and will always be, a big club. They attract crowds of around 50,000 people every week and can still attract some of the best players and managers, such as Rafa Benitez who was managing Real Madrid just two months before taking over at St. James Park. Back in the Premier League after winning the Championship in the dying moments in 2016/17, they will be looking to reestablish themselves again in the top flight. Their squad is strong, with most of the 2016/17  title-winning squad still present.

The Magpies only have a few players on an excess of £50,000 a week. Jonjo Shelvey is their highest earner, and summer signings Salomon Rondon and Yoshinori Muto are also on high wages. Newcastle United Players Salaries are fairly similar and consistent though.

Last season in 2017/18, Newcastle finished in 10th position in the Premier League. Manager Rafa Benitez will look to do even better this season, even though the club have not given him much backing in the transfer window.

Newcastle United stadium and financial info

Their stadium, St. James’ Park, is a huge 52,000 seats, and sells out for almost every home match, so ticket profits this season have been good. Newcastle were still able to generate enough money to cover their Premier League wage bill whilst in the Championship, and it was justified as they marched to the league title on the last day of the season. The financial reward for promotion is huge and they will continue bringing in income given that the profile of English football continues to grow year upon year.

Of course, the money from the Premier League is not the reason they wanted to be in there. As one of England’s traditionally biggest clubs, they know they belong in the Premier League because they want to be playing the big teams, like Chelsea, Manchester United and Liverpool. Just 15 years ago they were even competing in the Champions League.

Under Rafa Benitez, they will be looking to build towards another successful spell in the club’s history. They have the manager and money to do it, now all they need is a better squad and to avoid relegation again for the next few season, and they can look to become the giants of English football they once were.
