FC Barcelona reach agreement with Arsenal for Thomas Vermaelen

0

Arsenal and FC Barcelona have reached an agreement for the sale of defender Thomas Vermaelen.

The Belgium international has been linked with a Summer exit after falling down the pecking order at the North London club, despite still being the captain, and he will now fly to Spain in order to complete a medical and agree personal terms with the Catalan side.

The fee is reported to be around ÂŁ15million, which Arsene Wenger will look to use to sign a new centre-defender as Vermaelen’s replacement, as the club currently only have two recognised defenders in Laurent Koscielny and Per Mertesacker, with the latter still yet to return to pre-season.

Barca have been on the look-out for a new centre-back since Carles Puyol announced his retirement, and with news that Vermaelen was available, they moved in and beat Manchester United to his signature, after the Premier League side pulled out due to Arsenal wanting to do a swap deal with Chris Smalling.

United end pursuit of Vermaelen

0

Arsenal defender Thomas Vermaelen will not be moving to Old Trafford, as Manchester United have decided to drop all interest in the player.

United have decided against bringing in the Belgian to the club, as Arsenal’s conditions were seen as unacceptable.

It is known that Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger would only be willing to give United Vermaelen if they offered either Chris Smalling or Phil Jones, something which United have not agreed with.

This has become the stumbling block in this deal, with Wenger already unwilling to sell his player to an English rival.

Vermaelen has said he would prefer a move to United, but now may have to settle for Barcelona, with a deal close to being agreed worth ÂŁ10 million pounds.

Manchester United boss Louis Van Gaal now has to target other players, with the likes of Daley Blind and Benatia being linked with the club.

Manchester United to offer ÂŁ45 million for Arturo Vidal after opening negotiations with Juventus

0

Manchester United are set to bid ÂŁ45 million for Juventus midfielder Arturo Vidal after finally opening talks with the Serie A club. It is believed that Vidal has already agreed to a ÂŁ182,000 per week contract with United after the Chilean told friends that he wanted to quit the Turin club this summer. According to the Daily Star, talks began this week over a possible transfer and United are preparing to put a ÂŁ45 million bid on the table to open the negotations.

If the offer is accepted, it will be the Red Devils’ most expensive signing ever, suprassing the ÂŁ37.1 paid to Chelsea for Juan Mata last season. The only obstalce in the way of a transfer is an extensive medical check which Vidal must pass in order to complete his switch to United. The Red Devils have already been made aware of the previous ankle and knee injuries the Chile International has suffered, but Van Gaal won’t want to be spening big on a player without a full diagnosis.

Arsenal closing in on Douglas Costa loan

0

Arsenal are reportedly closing in on a loan-deal with Shakhtar Donetsk for striker Douglas Costa.

Costa would be The Gunners’ fifth signing this Summer, following the likes of; Alexis Sanchez, Mathieu Debuchy, David Ospina and Calum Chambers to the Emirates Stadium, and despite already spending over ÂŁ50million, Arsene Wenger is keen to add a couple more faces.

It’s believed Wenger mainly wants a defensive midfielder and a back-up centre-back, just incase Thomas Vermaelen leaves, but a chance to take Costa on loan for the season may appeal to the Frenchman as well.

The 23-year-old Brazilian has told the Ukrainian club that he doesn’t want to return due to the political issues taking place in the country, and he has refused to return to the country after playing a friendly in France.

It’s believed Arsenal would pay a large loan-fee for the season, and then discuss a permanent move with Shakhtar next Summer.

John Terry talks about Frank Lampard’s move

0

Chelsea captain John Terry has admitted that it doesn’t feel right seeing former team-mate Frank Lampard in a Manchester City shirt, and has felt lost without him during pre-season training.

Lampard has moved on to fresh challenges since his last contract expired, and began training with Manchester City last week, beginning his 6 month loan spell with them before heading to America to play for New York City.

But Terry has taken that move – and Ashley Cole’s move to Roma – tough to take after playing alongside them both for nearly a decade.

“I felt lost for the first few days (of pre-season,” Terry admitted, “At Cobham Lamps is next door to me and Cole is a couple it a couple.”

“We’ve grown up together, we’ve won and lost here and done so many great things together. It’s sad to see them go.”

“To see Ash already sign for Roma and Lamps heading for New York… It doesn’t seem right seeing them in different shirts. Maybe over time it will ease.” He told Chelsea TV.

He’s been an idol and someone I aspire to be in training, around the place, off the field. He was a great character but footballing wise I’ve never met someone who works as hard as he does on the field to improve his game.

‘To do what he has done at the club… for me there’s no one better. Lamps has been an absolute legend at this football club and his legacy will remain forever.

‘This club is evolving. One day we’ll all be gone.’

Chelsea set to swoop for Arsenal target Rabiot

0

Despite bringing in Cesc Fabregas following the departure of Chelsea legend Frank Lampard, Jose Mourinho believes that bringing in 19 year old Rabiot from French champions PSG will add more depth and more versatility to his squad.

Chelsea have reportedly had a bid of ÂŁ7,000,000 for Rabiot rejected but Mourinho looks ready to hit back with a ÂŁ10,000,000 to steal the midfielder from under the noses of Premier League rivals Arsenal.

Mourinho had previously had his eyes set on Juventus sensation Paul Pogba but the sight of his ÂŁ60,000,000 asking price caused the Portuguese to seek an alternative, and with Rabiot falling down the pecking order at PSG, with the likes of Blaise Matuidi and Yohan Cabaye in the side, Mourinho has both eyes firmly locked on the youngster and hopes to wrap a deal up before Chelsea kick off the new season away at Premier League new boys Burnley.

Southampton are preparing to finally bring Argentine defender Marcos Rojo to St.Marys.

The Saints made an official bid of ÂŁ11 million, but only for it to be rejected with Sporting Lisbon after at least ÂŁ13 million for their player.

It is understood that Southampton will meet the ÂŁ13m valuation in the coming days, with Rojo himself making it known that he would be willing to leave.

“For now I intend to return to Sporting on the 30th July, and then we’ll see.

“It is a matter for the club and my representatives. I’m cool.”

The Argentine’s willingness to discuss a transfer will encourage most Saints fans, but interest from Man Utd, Liverpool and Chelsea will not.

Chelsea could cash in on Cech sale to fund Varane move

0

With the battle for the number 1 goalkeeping jersey seemingly won by new arrival Thibaut Courtois, Chelsea will look to cash in on legendary goalkeeper Petr Cech in order to find bid for Real Madrid centre back Raphael Varane.

Its no secret that Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho rates the French defender so highly, he’s described him as ‘The best young centre back in the world’ and would love to add him to the blues squad this summer.

Chelsea are closely monitoring the contract situation between Varane and his current club Real Madrid and will look to pounce if Petr Cech is sold with a host or clubs lining up for his signature.

Coincidently enough it’s Real Madrid who appear to be first in that queue with their goalkeeping situation looking uncertain for 2014-15 and a deal could be struck seeing the two move in opposite directions.

With Chelsea’s 20million bud for Atletico’s Miranda rejected Jose Mourinho has turned his attention to a player he knows well and could be a potential long term replacement for John Terry.

The French international defender impressed at the recent Fifa World Cup and is thought to be open about a move to the Premier League.

Arsenal target PSG starlet

0

Arsenal have held talks with PSG over the possibility of signing exciting young midfielder Adrien Rabbiot.

The 19 year old midfielder has an uncertain future as he rejected a contract offer from PSG at the end of last season. He hasn’t ruled out extending his stay in Paris, however Arsenal have opened talks to sign the exciting youngster.

Arsenal have had scouts watch the midfielder for France U21’s and also during his loan spell at Toulouse in 2013.

Chelsea have also been linked with Rabiot, however, the chance to work with Arsene Wenger could be to tempting for the young Frenchman to turn down.

PSG value the midfielder at ÂŁ8 million and Arsenal would be more than capable of increasing Rabiot’s current ÂŁ8,000 a week wages.

This has put Manchester United on red alert as Blind has been one of Louis Van Gaal’s key targets throughout this summer’s transfer window and a deal for the 24 year old Dutchman could now be a certainty after comments made from the manager of Ajax’s youth team, Richard Witschge.

‘I think Daley Blind will be leaving soon. I have a feeling,’ he stated to a Dutch media coverage group.

‘Theres something going on; he’s been training on his own’.

Real Madrid lead the chase for Chelsea Keeper

0

Former Chelsea boss Carlo Ancelotti is leading the chase for Petr Cech’s signature as the stopper looks set to leave Stamford Bridge due to return of Thibaut Courtois lenghty loan stint at Atletico Madrid. Whether Cech is wanted to replace Casillas or just to increase the keepers competition remains to be seen.

However it is likely Casillas could be on his way out of Real with the recent signing of Keylor Navas from Levante and also Diego Lopez on the books, Real would have 4 top keepers on their books. With either Casillas or Lopez to depart.

Jose Mourinho is contemplating using Cech as a makeweight in a move to try and secure Raphael Varane’s signature as the Chelsea Manager rates the defender he took to Real Madrid very highly.

PSG are also interested in Cech and the option of having first refusal on Edinson Cavani may tempt Jose Mourinho to sell the stopper to the Ligue 1 champions.
