Burton Albion Information 2020

Burton Albion’s nickname is the Brewers. They currently play in League One, which England’s third division of football. Burton Albion started out as a non-league club from 1950 until 2009 when they were promoted to the Football League.

Burton Albion were promoted to the League One after having won the League Two in 2014/15 guided by Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink as manager. For the 2015/16 season, Nigel Clough returned as manager after having spent previous stints there and guided Burton Albion to second-place in the League One. That led to automatic promotion to the Championship for the first time in their history. In 2016/17, Burton Albion secured their Championship status for another season but fell down to the League One a year later.

The Brewers’

Local rivals in the non-league were Gresley Rovers, Nuneaton Borough, Stafford Rangers, and Tamworth. After being promoted to the professional football leagues, local rivalries with Port Vale, Crewe Alexandra, Notts County, Chesterfield, and Walsall have become prominent.  There is also a rather friendly rivalry with Derby County, due to their shared fan base and former manager, Nigel Clough having a strong background at Derby County.

After being promoted to the Championship, Burton Albion developed rivalries with local big clubs such as Nottingham Forest and Wolves,  as well as with Derby, Aston Villa, and Birmingham City. Two of those clubs are currently in the Premier League. Burton Albion’s home ground is the Pirelli Stadium in Burton upon Trent. It can host up to 6,912 fans which is astoundingly small.
