Charlton Athletic Information 2023
Since 1905, the Addicks have played in the Pound Park and few other grounds for some years. After that in 1918, they decided to move to a new stadium to improve their commercial growth. Since the 1919 – 1920 season, they have been using only one home ground throughout the years – The Valley Stadium.
The Valley has a capacity of around 27,000 seats. There are plans in place to increase the ground’s capacity to approximately 31,000 and even around 40,000 in the future. The club’s home colours are red and white for shirts and black for shorts. They were the most consistent team in the top flight of English football over the three seasons immediately before the Second World War.
Charlton also achieved promotion to the Premier League for the first time after one of the most dramatic games of football at Wembley in 1998. The Addicks beat Sunderland 7-6 on penalties.
The Addicks are mostly supported across the South East London and Kent and also London boroughs of Greenwich, Bexley and Bromley in England. Charlton fans consider Crystal Palace and Milwall as their main rivals. The rivalry with Crystal Palace grew substantially in the mid 1980’s, when the Addicks left their home stadium after intensive fights with Palace fans. There are many fans who want to see their club get on a good track and compete on a top-level.
