French Open tennis, also known as the Tournoi de Roland-Garros or simply Roland Garros colloquially, is one of the largest tennis tournaments in the world dating back to 1891.
The first ever edition of the French Open tournament began as a one-day tournament on the Ile de Puteaux in Paris but has been played since 1928 at the Roland-Garros stadium and has also grown enormously in proportions, and the championship is now one of the biggest tournaments in the world of tennis.
Of tennis’ four Grand Slam tournaments, it is also the only one of them all played on clay. The matches are played every year during the last week of May and the first week of June.
After a very exciting final in the first Grand Slam tournament of the year, the Australian Open , where Stefanos Tsitsipas beat Rafael Nadal in an exciting final meeting, and Serena Williams managed to beat her sister Venus Williams, it is now high time to start thinking about the next competition in the tournament and we leave Melbourne for Paris. Before every French Open tennis tournament, there are 128 men and 128 women on the singles side who fight to lift the legendary trophy. As for the French Open men, it is the Coupe des Mousquetaires, named after the famous French Davis Cup team of René Lacoste, Jean Borotra, Henri Cochet and Jacques Brugnon. As for the French Open women, it is the Suzanne Lenglen trophy that is at stake.
French Open TV schedule – when does the French Open start and end?
When does French Open start? What does French Open on TV schedule look like? Paris and Roland Garros will be in the center of everyone’s eyes when it’s time for the French Open 2025!
After a three-month drug prohibition, Jannik Sinner, who is now ranked #1, returned to the game. He went to the quarterfinals after defeating Andrey Rublev. Zverev will have all the motivation he needs to get even after losing to the Spaniard in the final the previous year, but Alcaraz, the reigning champion, is the clear favorite to win the French Open 2025.
Despite Casper Ruud’s shocking loss to Nuno Borges, Taylor Fritz’s elimination by Daniel Altmaier, and Jack Draper’s loss to Alexander Bublik, there are still a few players with decent chances in our men’s French Open 2025 betting suggestions. Lorenzo Musetti is one player with a high ranking who could make it all the way to the final.
Aryna Sabalenka is another player at the top of the women’s rankings, along with Coco Gauff. She is a serious danger because she recently outperformed the current champion, Swiatek. The 21-year-old, who advanced to the 2022 final and the semifinals the previous season, has demonstrated that she has what it takes to win the greatest award on the difficult surface.
The 17-year-old Mirra Andreeva, who is currently comfortably rated in the top ten and is still making great strides, should not be overlooked. She is another possible women’s French Open 2025 betting choice because of her victory over Kasatkina and her progress to the quarterfinals.
On the men’s side, the big names like Carlos Alcaraz (1.90), Jannik Sinner (2.7), Novak Djokovic (9.0) and Alexander Zverev (15.0) are the favorites to win the tournament. But challengers in the form of Jack Draper (15.00) or Lorenzo Musetti (18.00) can never be dismissed, which makes it all extra exciting.
On the women’s side, we find names like Iga Swiatek (3.00), Aryna Sabalenka (3.05), Mirra Andreeva (5.5) and Coco Gauff (6.3) are the ones tipped to have the greatest chance to challenge on the women’s side, with Qinwen Zheng (15.00) and Elina Svitolina (15.00) as strong contenders.
The 2025 French Open officially runs from May 19 to June 8. After a week of practice and qualifying, competition begins on Sunday, May 26.
Matches will be contested in two sessions—day and evening—during the competition’s fifteen days. The Roland Garros in Paris will host all of these events on four red clay courts.
It is Jannik Sinner (2.75) and Carlos Alcaraz (1.9), who are favorites to win on the men’s side, while Iga Swiatek (3.05) and Aryna Sabalenka (3.00) are advance favorites on the women’s side.

Favorite to win French Open Men’s Single
Alexander Zverev has named his favorite to win the French Open title and revealed where he ranks Novak Djokovic ahead of his showdown with the great Serb. The world No. 3 will face Grand Slam record holder Djokovic in the quarter-finals at Roland Garros on Wednesday. The German holds a 5-8 record from his 13 encounters against Djokovic, with the pair’s first match in 2017 and the most recent in January this year. Zverev progressed to the last eight when opponent Tallon Griekspoor was forced to retire due to injury when trailing 4-6, 0-3 in the pair’s fourth-round match.
In the round of 16, Djokovic easily defeated Cameron Norrie 6-2, 6-3, 6-2 to maintain his winning streak. The 38-year-old has won all four of his bouts without losing a set. After making it to the quarterfinals, Zverev was asked if he thought Djokovic was a favorite or a “black horse” (dark horse). He shook his head and then spoke clearly. After all, the man achieved 24 Grand Slam victories. After defeating Griekspoor, the 28-year-old stated in his press conference that he would never be a dark horse.
Favorite to win the French Open Women‘s Single
Iga Swiatek, the defending champion, is ranked fifth at the 2025 French Open, but she is always a contender for the title on the Paris clay. As a four-time French Open champion, the Polish tennis player is accustomed to dealing with pressure and heat. When she faced Naomi Osaka at the same location last summer, she demonstrated her elite mindset.
Her win-loss record of 27/9 this season has prevented her from winning a crown, and her form in 2025 has been intimidating. She also has a really challenging draw because she may face Sara Bejlek and Emma Raducanu in the second and third rounds. She will probably play Jelena Ostapenko in the fourth round, which will make things more challenging.
In head-to-head matches, Ostapenko has an undefeated 6-0 record against the six-time Grand Slam champion. Iga Swiatek’s challenge will therefore begin in the opening round, and if she wins again, it will rank among the greatest victories at Roland Garros.
