After a gripping weekend of Premier League football, attention turns back to continental affairs for one last time in 2024 for the Champions League Knockout stage draw.
Manchester City and Arsenal were the only English side to finish top of their group and qualify to the knockout stage and Round of 16.

When is the Champions League Group Stage draw?
The Champions League Group draw will take place on Monday 31 August March 2023.
The draw for the UEFA Champions League Group stage takes place at 11AM GMT, with Europe’s top teams to learn who they’ll face first in the group stage.
When is the Champions League Knockout draw for Round of 16?
The first Champions League Knockout Stage draw for Round of 16 will take place on Monday 18 December 2023.

How does the Champions League draw work?
In the Round of 16 teams cannot face opposition from the same national association and teams they previously came up against in the group stage. This means there are seedings and country protection in the Round of 16.
In the Quarter and Semi Final teams can face opposition from the same national association and teams they previously came up against in the group stage. This means there are no seedings and country protection in the Quarter and Semi Finals.
For the Quarter Final draw, eight balls containing the names of the Quarter Finalists are placed in a large central bowl and shuffled. The first team drawn plays its first match at home, against the second team drawn.
For the Semi Final draw, four balls containing slips of paper marked ‘Winners of quarter-final 1’ to ‘Winners of quarter-final 4’ are placed in a large central bowl and shuffled.
The first and second balls drawn determine the first Semi Final pairing, the first ball drawn representing the home team for the first leg.

Here are Champions League draws and format explained. The teams are drawn for the qualifying rounds and group stages. The seedings for the the qualifying rounds and group stages draws are decided in accordance with the club coefficient rankings established at the beginning of the season.
The first seed always comprises the Champions League titleholder, the UEFA Europa League titleholder and the six best domestic champions as ranked by UEFA.

UEFA Champions League Round of 16 draw rules
There are several Champions League draw rules that UEFA must follow in the first knockout draw – the Round of 16.
Teams from the same national federation can not play one another in the Round of 16. For example, Arsenal can not play Man City in the Round of 16 because they both play in the Premier League. Arsenal and Man City can play one another in the quarter-finals.
