Liverpool’s Rodgers hints at Anfield departures

0

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers believes that more players will be leaving the club before the transfer window slams shut on Monday evening.

With Mario Balotelli joining the club in a £16 million deal from AC Milan earlier this week, it may have signalled the end of Liverpool’s transfer activity this summer.

However, the Reds boss has claimed that players could yet still leave the club before Monday’s 11pm UK time deadline, with Daniel Agger and Lucas two potential targets for teams across Europe.

“There will be more moving out than in,” Rodgers said.

“The players know. There’s not many more to come in, if any.”

Balotelli became Liverpool’s ninth summer signing, and to allocate all of them once they’re all fit Rodgers will have to streamline his squad further before the end of the window.

The Italian is expected to make his Liverpool debut away to Tottenham Hotspur this Sunday.

Cudicini warns that Chelsea could lose Cech

0

Former Chelsea goalkeeper Carlo Cudicini has warned Chelsea that they risk losing goalkeeper Petr Cech if Thibaut Courtois remains as Jose Mourinho’s number one.

Cech has yet to feature for the Stamford Bridge side in the Premier League this season, with Mourinho opting for the younger option of Courtois for their two opening league games.

Cudicini himself was replaced by Cech, although he decided to stay and try and fight for this place back in the side

But the ex-Chelsea stopper claimed that Cech won’t hang around to play second fiddle to the Belgian international.

”I decided to stay but that doesn’t mean Petr will do the same. Every situation is different. I was the Number 1 for three years when Petr arrived but I didn’t have the same pedigree Petr has now.”

”He can go anywhere. Any team in the world will take him but it was different for me. A goalkeeper of his calibre will try to win the No 1 jersey back but if Courtios does his job well and keeps it, then I don’t think Petr will stay.”

Cech is set to stay with Chelsea past this summer’s transfer window, although if he’s still to make an appearance come January then it may alert other clubs to begin bidding for the Czech in a bid to turn his head away from Stamford Bridge for some first team football.

Liverpool eye Reading stopper

0

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers is looking at a potential bid for Reading goalkeeper Alex McCarthy as he searches for backup to first choice Simon Mignolet.

Queens Park Rangers were rumoured to have had McCarthy in for a medical, however Liverpool will hope that the prosepct of playing back-up in the Champions League will sway the decision their way.

A price tag of £4 million has been mouted, which would represent good value for money as McCarthy is still only 24 years old and would qualify as a homegrown player.

The goalkeeper has played 70 matches for Reading since making his debut in 2007, having come through the youth system with the Royals. He also has 3 caps for the England U’21s.

With the transfer window closing on Monday, Rodgers will have to move quickly for his man to get a deal in place by the 11pm deadline.

Martinez would have paid £100m for Lukaku

0

Roberto Martinez has claimed that he would have paid £100m for striker Romelu Lukaku. Everton managed to sign the Belgian in a deal worth £28m earlier this month.

The striker looks set to face his former team Chelsea for the first time since completing his switch this weekend. Boss Martinez is absolutely delighted to have him at Goodison Park and said he was a bargain at £28m: “It’s not about the value. I would have paid £100million for Lukaku. If I had the money, yes, why not? The figure is insignificant.

“It is about the character and type of player you want in the group. Sometimes a player at £3million can be an expensive buy and sometimes a player at £28million can be a very cheap buy.”

Speaking about the game against Chelsea this Saturday, Martinez doesn’t believe that Lukaku will have any extra motivation to do well against his old club, despite the fact he played just three times under Jose Mourinho. He said: “I know what you are saying.

“My answer is, of course, he is human and leading up to the game people will say ‘you are facing your old team-mates and manager’. That’s normal. But what I am saying is that his level of performance will not change from against Arsenal or Leicester.

“He is not going through the motions, he is raising his levels for every game. Every game he is fresh, so I do not see any difference at all for this game.”

Wolfsburg end Podolski interest as Germans dismisses Gustavo’s Gunners move

0

Bundesliga club Wolfsburg have confirmed that Luis Gustavo will remain at the club, despite interst from Arsenal, reports the Metro.

Gustavo has been linked with a move to Arsenal in the past week or so, jusy as he was a year ago, before the Brazilian decided to sign for Wolfsburg from Bayern Munich.

And now Arsene Wenger was lined with him once again, as the Gunners boss looks to bolster his midfield options, with the transfer window closing on Monday evening.

The news will come as a bitter blow for the Gunners, with the manager Dieter Heckling stating to German media:

‘A lot of rumours. He wants to stay. We want to keep him,’ he said.

Wolfsburg, who will face Everton in the group stage of the Europa League this season, have also pulled out of the race to sign Arsenal’s 29 year old forward Lukas Podolski.

Podolski emerged as a potential target for the Bundesliga club last week, having slipped down the pecking order at the Emirates, and is set to remain this summer, despite interest from Turkish clubs Galatasaray and Besiktas.

‘I think he is a good player but he will stay with Arsenal. We have finished our recruitment.’

Jose Mourinho puts on his poker face regarding Fernando Torres

0

The struggling to score Spanish International is believed to have agreed a two-year deal with AC Milan.

But Mourinho still remained coy on Torres’ future at Stamford Bridge when questioned in today’s press conference.

‘At the moment Torres is our player and there is nothing wrong with that,’ said the Chelsea boss.

‘We need three strikers to face the season. He is one of them. I like him.

‘If he wants to leave, I believe it’s because he wants to try a new life, possibly a new league.

‘If he wants to leave – and I have not heard that from him – any possibility would be analysed.’

Meanwhile, amid speculation linking the Blues with both Mattia Destro of Roma and QPR forward Loic Remy, Mourinho says he is not planning any more additions to his squad.

‘At the moment, we are doing nothing, because our belief is that the market is closed enough,’ he added.

Alonso rejected Prem move to preserve Liverpool legacy

0

Xabi Alonso has admitted that he rejected a move to the Premier League to keep his Liverpool legacy intact. The midfielder has left Real Madrid to join Bayern Munich in a £5m deal.

He had been linked with moves to both Chelsea and Man United this summer but the Spaniard rejected the Prem in favour of the Bundesliga. Why? To protect his Liverpool status. Alonso said: “I had five great years at Liverpool and I would rather just keep that memory as it is. The interest came in from Bayern in the last two weeks and it’s the right decision.”

He also added: “At the end of last season I knew that winning the Champions League would usher in a new era for the club and I need to start a new era too.

“I detected that this might be the moment when it was right to leave. We fought hard to win the club’s tenth European Cup after losing three semi-finals, it was a weight lifted and a good time to move on.”

Bayern Munich are currently in the middle of a midfield crisis, with Thiago, Bastian Schweinsteiger and Javi Martinez all unavailable. With the signing of Alonso, boss Pep Guardiola now has some cover in the centre of the park.

Queens Park Rangers offer Loic Remy new contract

0

Queens Park Rangers are set to offer striker Loic Remy a new contract in hope that he will stay at the club.

The Frenchman spent last season out on loan at Newcastle United, and has been strongly linked with an exit away from Loftus Road this Summer in order to play in the Champions League.

However, so far, Remy hasn’t been able to complete his transfer away from QPR, despite agreeing terms with Liverpool earlier on in the market.

Remy was all set for an £8million move to Anfield, but the striker ended up failing his medical and the move collapsed.

Since then, Remy has been linked with a move to Chelsea, but it now appears that QPR want to try and hold on to the 27-year-old, and are hopeful that he will sign a new deal.

Wenger tight-lipped over Falcao arrival

0

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has left a move for Monaco forward Radamel Falcao out in the open after giving nothing away when questioned about the player.

Falcao has been made availible for loan after openly admitting that he hoped for a move to Spanish giants Real Madrid over the summer.

And now with Arsenal striker Olivier Giroud out for a lenghty spell on the sidelines, Arsene Wenger is ready to bring in the powerhouse Colombian to fill in the gap left by the injured Frenchman.

A £20 million loan-deal looks set to be in place with Arsenal now having a clear run at the player.

And when quizzed about Falcao to Arsenal links today, Wenger refused to rule it out.

It is very difficult. All negotiations have to be discussed secretly,’ he said.

‘If something happens, you will of course be informed.’

Wenger remains keen to have another striker on board before the close of the transfer deadline on Monday, and has been linked with a host of names.

Kagawa on the brink of United exit

0

Manchester United are set to allow Shinji Kagawa return back to Borussia Dortmund.

The Japanese attacking midfielder has been a bit-part player since joining United from Dortmund for £17 million and has found it hard to find his feet at Old Trafford since arriving.

Dortmund have agreed personal terms with Kagawa and all that is left to do is agree a fee between the clubs. It is understood that the German outfit have offered £8 million to re-sign the player, with United boss Louis Van Gaal happy with the money offered.

It look increasingly likely that Kagawa will secure a deal back to Germany in the coming days, with United ready to offload players before the deadline on Monday.

Valencia have also made enquiries over Kagawa, and are also after Javier Hernandez and Tom Cleverley.
